Wintersportsareholdingtryoutsandwillbegintheseasonsoon. TheChoir,BandandOrchestraareallpreparingfortheirupcomingChristmasconcerts andtheDramaClubwillbeperformingtheTempestlaterthisweekatIdahoFallsHigh School TheannualMulticulturalactivitiesarebeingplannedforJanuary. b.PatronInput Commentswereprovidedbythefollowing:AnneHowell,TimUrling,MelindaHamilton,Cindy SmithPutnam,JennieBrown,ChristineSmithandJerryHong. IFEAReport‘MitziEllingsonreported.Awrittenreportisattached. EducationFoundation‘CamiSmithreported: CamiprovidedalistofrecipientsfortheMaeckFoundationgrants.TheEducationFoundationis verygratefultotheMaeckFoundationfortheirgenerouscontributionof$47,000thisyearin supportofthestudentsandfacultyofDistrict91. TheFredMeyerFundGrantgave$20,000totheEducationFoundationwhichwasusedto purchaseforeignlanguagetextbooksandT1classroomcalculatorsatsecondaryschools. TheEducationFoundationcontributionformandTetonToyotatruckraffleformsarebeingsent outwiththeCityofIdahoFallsutilitiesmailingthismonth.Contributionsandraffleticket requestshavealreadystartedtocomein. TheEducationFoundationwillparticipateintheAnnualHolidayAlternativeGivingFairatthe thth CommunityOutreachCenterthisweekend,November12and13. {Ò¦;©z“·;“7;“·x­Report SuperintendentBolandjustreturnedfromthesixthmeetingoftheStateTechnologyTaskForce meetinginBoisetoday.TheTaskForcecommitteecontinuestoworkontheonetoone integrationofclassroomtechnology.StateSuperintendentLunaisscheduledtopresentthe informationtotheLegislatureinJanuary.ThefirstinstallmentoftechnologyfundstoDistrict91 willbeawardedthroughacompetitivegrantprocesssetupbyCamilleWood,Directorof TechnologyServicesandGailRochelle,DirectorofStudentAchievementandProfessional Developmentandtodate131grantshavebeensubmittedtotaling$655,000.00.Acommittee willbereadingandscoringtheproposedgrantsinDecemberandtherecipientswillbenotified beforetheChristmasBreak. SuperintendentBolandintroducedKarlaLaOrange,DirectorofElementaryEducation,toshare withtheBoardinformationaboutacommunityreadingprojectbeingplannedattheelementary level.KarlaintroducedthereadinginitiativeOneDistrictOneBook.Karlaexplainedthatevery elementaryfamilyinthedistrict,kindergartenthroughsixthgrade,willreceiveonenoveltohelp encouragedailyreadingtochildrenathome.Theprojectwillstartwithanassemblyateachof plannedtohelppromote theelementaryschoolstointroducethebookandtheactivitiesbeing thisexcitingproject.Karlawillsharemoreinformationasitbecomesavailable. LisaBurtenshawaddedthatduringthecommitteereview,JudyBoweralsostatedthatasapatronof District91sheisconcernedthatthedistrict7š;­“x·haveabondbecauseitcouldimplythatour investmentinourschoolswouldbelacking. LisaBurtenshawmadeamotiontoaccepttheauditresultsaspresentedbyGalusha,Higgins&Galusha. LarryHawsseconded.Motioncarried. b.ThirdReadingofBoardPolicy408‘Nutrition SuperintendentBolandreviewedthatsomechangesweremadetothisproposalafterthesecondreading thatwouldcontinuetopermitoutsidevendorsaslongastheymeetthesamealacartestandards requiredofthechildnutritionprogram.Theoriginalpurposeforthechangestothispolicywasto referencethestatenutritionguidelinesinpolicyandthenspecificallylistthemintheadministrative procedures.Theguidelinesarealwayschangingandthiswouldallowprocedurestobechangedas neededwithonlyonereadingforboardapproval.Adiscussionwasheld. LarryHawsmadeamotiontoapprovethechangestoBoardPolicy609‘Transfer/ForeignExchange Studentsaspresented.JerryWixomseconded.Motioncarried. d.ProposedCalendarRevisionsforApril16&18,2012 SATtestingrequiredforall SuperintendentBolandexplainedthatinordertoaccommodatethestatewide juniorsonApril18,2012therecommendationwouldbetomodifythecurrentcalendarbymovingthe April16,2012earlydismissaldaytoApril18,2012atthesecondarylevel.Thischangewouldalsoallow timeforallsophomorestotaketheACTPlanandseniorstoworkonculminatingactivities.Nochanges wouldoccurattheelementarylevel.Adiscussionwasheld. LisaBurtenshawmadeamotiontoacceptthemodificationstothecalendartomovetheearlyreleaseday forsecondaryschoolsfromApril16,2012toApril18,2012aspresented.LarryHawsseconded.Motion carried. Page 4 of 4 11/08/2011District91BoardMinutes SchoolBoardMeeting CommitteeWork Iputoutacallthislastmonthfor3differentcommittees.Ihad20teachersrespondtoparticipateon theReductioninForcecommittee.IsentthosenamestoGeorgeandasperourconversationheis puttingtogetheracommitteestructurethatwillbenefitalllevelsoftheeducationalsystem. Understandthatthereissomeanxietywiththerequestforthiscommitteetobeginwork,because employeesseethattherewillbeanewHighSchoolnextyearandthatpositionswillneedtobeshuffled. ThesetwoideashavetogetherhavegottenpeopletothinkthataRIFwilloccurthisyear. TheMathConsortiumwillmeetforthefirsttimeThursday,Nov.10,afterschool.TenteachersK12will berepresented,andagain,Iwouldliketoreiteratethatthepurposeofthisconsortiumistobrainstorm, factfindandpresentsolutionstotheMathCommittee,andTrinaandKarla. ThestateofIdahohasa/wzŒ7©;“x­FundthathasfundsdonatedtoitbyEducationemployeesacrossthe state.ThisfundcanbeaccessedbyAssociationmemberswhentheyencounterastudentinneed.(Eye aids,schoolsupplies,etc)Oneyearweevenhelpedafamilypaytheirrentinthe Glasses,hearing monthofDecember.IthasbeenafewyearssincetheIFEAhasmadeasubstantialcontributionstothe fundsoIaskedafewmembersiftheywouldbeinterestedinchairingthiscommitteetohelpincrease thecontributionsmadebyIdahoFallseducators.LeaMillet(Erickson)JennTuck(Sunnyside),Shelley Thiel(EagleRock)andEricLayton(Skyline)haveallagreedtoheadthisveryimportantendeavor.Iwill meetwiththemtodiscussthethreedirectivessetoutbytheRepresentativecounciloftheIFEA. Anxietyisstillrunningprettyhighformanyemployeesofthedistrict.Iattendedthelastsecondary principalsmeetingandhadachancetolookovertheinitialtimelineofhowthingswillplayout.My biggestconcernisstaffingchangesthatwillhappenoutsideoftheNewTechwz©z“mx­uStaffingchanges wereslatedforApril,theyhavenowbeenmoveduptoMarchhoweverIwouldreallyliketoseestaffing changesbeginandbefinalizedbymidFebruary.Iunderstandthatthisisabigchangeandthatsomeof thesethingscanonlyhappensofast.However,ifthestaffingchangescanbemadebymidFebruaryI knowIwouldbehappy,alongwithmanyotheremployees. Asfarasnewtechisconcerned,IdidtraveltoTexasanddidgetachancetoseefirsthandwhatthe schoolhastooffer.Istillbelieveisagreatschool,andhasaplaceinourcommunity.However,Iwould reallyliketoseethetransitionofstaffmemberstonewpositionshappennotonlyinatimelymanner butalsoconscientiousmanner.
