TheFredMeyerFundGrantgave$20,000totheEducationFoundationwhichwasusedto purchaseforeignlanguagetextbooksandT1classroomcalculatorsatsecondaryschools. TheEducationFoundationcontributionformandTetonToyotatruckraffleformsarebeingsent outwiththeCityofIdahoFallsutilitiesmailingthismonth.Contributionsandraffleticket requestshavealreadystartedtocomein. TheEducationFoundationwillparticipateintheAnnualHolidayAlternativeGivingFairatthe thth CommunityOutreachCenterthisweekend,November12and13. {Ò¦;©z·;7;·xReport SuperintendentBolandjustreturnedfromthesixthmeetingoftheStateTechnologyTaskForce meetinginBoisetoday.TheTaskForcecommitteecontinuestoworkontheonetoone integrationofclassroomtechnology.StateSuperintendentLunaisscheduledtopresentthe informationtotheLegislatureinJanuary.ThefirstinstallmentoftechnologyfundstoDistrict91 willbeawardedthroughacompetitivegrantprocesssetupbyCamilleWood,Directorof TechnologyServicesandGailRochelle,DirectorofStudentAchievementandProfessional Developmentandtodate131grantshavebeensubmittedtotaling$655,000.00.Acommittee willbereadingandscoringtheproposedgrantsinDecemberandtherecipientswillbenotified beforetheChristmasBreak. SuperintendentBolandintroducedKarlaLaOrange,DirectorofElementaryEducation,toshare withtheBoardinformationaboutacommunityreadingprojectbeingplannedattheelementary level.KarlaintroducedthereadinginitiativeOneDistrictOneBook.Karlaexplainedthatevery elementaryfamilyinthedistrict,kindergartenthroughsixthgrade,willreceiveonenoveltohelp encouragedailyreadingtochildrenathome.Theprojectwillstartwithanassemblyateachof plannedtohelppromote theelementaryschoolstointroducethebookandtheactivitiesbeing thisexcitingproject.Karlawillsharemoreinformationasitbecomesavailable. Understandthatthereissomeanxietywiththerequestforthiscommitteetobeginwork,because employeesseethattherewillbeanewHighSchoolnextyearandthatpositionswillneedtobeshuffled. ThesetwoideashavetogetherhavegottenpeopletothinkthataRIFwilloccurthisyear. TheMathConsortiumwillmeetforthefirsttimeThursday,Nov.10,afterschool.TenteachersK12will berepresented,andagain,Iwouldliketoreiteratethatthepurposeofthisconsortiumistobrainstorm, factfindandpresentsolutionstotheMathCommittee,andTrinaandKarla. ThestateofIdahohasa/wz7©;xFundthathasfundsdonatedtoitbyEducationemployeesacrossthe state.ThisfundcanbeaccessedbyAssociationmemberswhentheyencounterastudentinneed.(Eye aids,schoolsupplies,etc)Oneyearweevenhelpedafamilypaytheirrentinthe Glasses,hearing monthofDecember.IthasbeenafewyearssincetheIFEAhasmadeasubstantialcontributionstothe fundsoIaskedafewmembersiftheywouldbeinterestedinchairingthiscommitteetohelpincrease thecontributionsmadebyIdahoFallseducators.LeaMillet(Erickson)JennTuck(Sunnyside),Shelley Thiel(EagleRock)andEricLayton(Skyline)haveallagreedtoheadthisveryimportantendeavor.Iwill meetwiththemtodiscussthethreedirectivessetoutbytheRepresentativecounciloftheIFEA. Anxietyisstillrunningprettyhighformanyemployeesofthedistrict.Iattendedthelastsecondary principalsmeetingandhadachancetolookovertheinitialtimelineofhowthingswillplayout.My biggestconcernisstaffingchangesthatwillhappenoutsideoftheNewTechwz©zmxuStaffingchanges wereslatedforApril,theyhavenowbeenmoveduptoMarchhoweverIwouldreallyliketoseestaffing changesbeginandbefinalizedbymidFebruary.Iunderstandthatthisisabigchangeandthatsomeof thesethingscanonlyhappensofast.However,ifthestaffingchangescanbemadebymidFebruaryI knowIwouldbehappy,alongwithmanyotheremployees. Asfarasnewtechisconcerned,IdidtraveltoTexasanddidgetachancetoseefirsthandwhatthe schoolhastooffer.Istillbelieveisagreatschool,andhasaplaceinourcommunity.However,Iwould reallyliketoseethetransitionofstaffmemberstonewpositionshappennotonlyinatimelymanner butalsoconscientiousmanner.
