ChairmanLentexcusedTrusteeLisaBurtenshawfortheremainderofthemeetingsothatshecouldattendthe ChoirConcert. e.FirstReadingofProposedBoardPolicyAdditions i.ServiceAnimalsinSchools LisaSherick,DirectorofStudentServices,reviewedthattheDistricthasalreadyexperiencedthe needforthispolicyandhasworkedwithlegalcounseltowritetheproposeddocument.This policyalsoneedstobeinplacetobeincompliancewithFederalguidelines.Theproposedpolicy willbepostedonthedistrictwebpageforpatronreviewandfeedbackuntilthesecondreading attheJanuary10,2012boardmeeting. ii.Lactation/Breastfeeding CarrieSmith,DirectorofHR&Finance,reviewedthataspartofthehealthcarereform employersarebeingstronglyrecommendedtohavethispolicyinplace.Theproposedpolicywill bepostedonthedistrictwebpageforpatronreviewandfeedback.Thesecondreadingofthis proposalisscheduledforJanuary10,2012. f.{Ò¦;©z“·;“7;“·x­Report‘ SuperintendentBolandreportedthetechnologyinnovationgrantapplications,aspartoftheStudents ComeFirstclassroomtechnologyintegration,werereviewedlastweek.CamilleWood,Directorof TechnologyandGailRochelle,DirectorofStudentAchievementandProfessionalDevelopment,worked 12/13/2011District91BoardMinutesPage 2 of 5 togetherontheapplicationandascoringrubricthatthecommitteeusedtoranktheproposals.Theplan istonotifythegrantrecipientsbyFriday,December16,priortotheChristmasBreak. TheSuperintendentalsoreviewedtheStateTechnologyTaskForceCommitteesrecommendationsforthe implementationofamobiledeviceforhighschoolstudents.Therecommendeddeviceisalaptopwhich wouldbedistributedtoonethirdofthedistrictsinthestateatatimeratherthanbygradelevel.The ClassroomIntegrationSubcommittee,whichSuperintendentBolandservedon,madearecommendation 33512,whichspecifiestherequirednumberofinstructionalhours thattheLegislatureamendIdahoCode andpermitswithinthosehours22hoursofprofessionaldevelopment.Withallofthestaffdevelopment thatisincludedintheStudentsComeFirstLegislationthecommitteefeltthatnumbershouldbe increasedby50hours,foratotalof72hours,toprovideforstaffdevelopmentandcollaborationtime.In all47recommendationswerepresented. AdiscussionwasalsoheldregardingtheneedforaspecialworksessionpriortotheChristmasBreak.The bondresolution. BoardagreedtomeetonFriday,December16,2011at1:30PMtodiscussa SuperintendentBolandaskedforanotherboardmembertoserveontheReductioninForceExecutive CommitteethatwillbeginworkinJanuaryondevelopingaRIFPolicy.ChairmanLentwillserveonthe committeeandaskedboardmemberstoemailhimiftheywereinterestedinhelping.DeidreWarden offeredtoserveonthecommittee.Othercalendaritemsdiscussedincludedadateforatrainingsession withtheISBAtrainerinJanuary,DayontheHillwithLegislatorsonFebruary1415,2012andtheAnnual ConferenceoftheNationalSchoolBoardAssociationonApril2123,2012.DeidreWardenshared informationaboutthemeetingheldlastweekatBonnevilleDistrict93withlocalLegislators. SuperintendentBolandcommentedthattherewasgoodrepresentationfromlocalgovernmental agenciesthisyearaswellasstaterepresentatives. SuperintendenttosignonbehalfoftheDistrict.JerryWixomseconded.Motioncarried f.RejectWrestlingMatBid CarrieSmith,DirectorofHR&Finance,reviewedthattheDistrictAthleticCoordinatorfoundthematsatSkyline HighSchoolnotinconditiontosellandwouldliketoretainthemasadditionalpaddingtouseunderthecurrent mats.TheAthleticCoordinatoralsofoundtheactualvalueofthematsbeingsoldbyIdahoFallsHighSchooltobe muchhigherthanoriginallythoughtandhasfoundapotentialbuyerwillingtopaythe$2000.00estimatedvalue.It istherecommendationofthedistrictcomptrollertorejectthecurrentbidof$336.00andreopenthebidding processatalaterdate. JerryWixommovedtoadjourn.DeidreWardenseconded.Meetingadjournedat8:45PM. 12/13/2011District91BoardMinutesPage 5 of 5 SchoolBoardNotes December13,2011 AstoryabouttheIdahoEducation!­­š-z·zš“x­/wzŒ7©;“x­FundwasonKIDKlastweek.Duringthisnew presentationIwasinterviewedaboutwhatthefundisusedforandwhocontributestoit.Teachersin thestateofIdahocontributetothisfundtoservestudentstheymayencounterthroughouttheschool yearLocallywehaveputtogetheroutowncommitteetoraisemorethanRegion6hasinthepast.The CoChairsLeaMillett(Erickson)andKimhxb;zŒŒ(Gale)haveagoalof$2000additionaldollarsjustfrom FallstocontributetotheIEADelegateAssemblyinApril2012. Idaho TheRIFcommitteestartedtomeetlastweek,andthesimplefactthatthiscommitteeismeetingis generatingalotoffearandstressthroughouttheschooldistrict.(Secondarymoreso,duetotheHS changesandthenatureofa·;-w;©x­specialization)Ihavealreadyobservedteachersvyingfortheir ownjob(whichtheyshould)butsomearestartingtofeelthattheirjobsareinjeopardybecausethey cannoteitherkeepupwiththetechnologybecauseofallthechangestheywouldrathernotcollaborate withcohortsincasetheyendupsabotagingthemselves. TherearetwoMiddleLevelBellSchedulesthatarebeinglookedatforERandTVnextyear.Neitherof theoptionshavebeenselected,howeverIhavereservationsabouttheinequitybetweenelectiveand coreteachers.Also,a400studentlunchwaspilotedlastmonthatER.Eventhoughthisoptionhasnot beenselectedyet,Iamconcernedaboutthesafetyofthestudents,supervisionandthepossibilityof st havingtohirepeopletohelpatlunch.(Weneed1Gradeaidesbeforeweneedlunchaides) Overthelastfewweeks,AngelaandIhavebeenaskedbymembersofthedistrictadministrationwhat canweandtheboarddotoshowteachersthattheyareappreciated?ItookthisquestiontotheIFEA ExecutiveBoardandIFEABuildingRepresentativeCouncil.Manysuggestionsweremade,(many includedmoney)Butwhenweaskedifmoneywasoutofthequestion,whatwouldyoulike.Thethree thingsIwouldliketotellyoucameoutwere: 1.Afullpagead/articleinthePostRegistertellingthecommunityhowmuchyouappreciate theemployeesofthedistrict. 2.Hireafulltimegrantwriter,astheteachersarefeelingoverwhelmedwiththeirworkduties, andtheunsaidextrapressuretowritegrantstostayviableasacontrasttotheircohorts. 3.Reinstatetheclassroommoneythatusedtobegiventoteachersforclassroomusefromthe legislators.(Understooditwouldnotbestatemoney) 12/13/2011IFEAReportEllingson
