BOARD OF TRUSTEES - SPECIAL WORK SESSION

Dave Lent, Board Chair, called the meeting to order at 1:30 P. M.
Jerry Wixom made a motion to adopt the agenda as presented. Lisa Burtenshaw seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
WORK SESSION
ISBA Board Training, Day on the Hill & NSBA Annual Conference Planning
Board members discussed upcoming events and agreed to meet on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 4:00 PM for the
ISBA Board Training. Debbie will confirm this date with the trainer and then send a calendar invitation to the Board.
Currently Dave Lent, Lisa Burtenshaw, Deidre Warden and Superintendent Boland are planning to attend the Annual Day
on the Hill event on February 14 -15, 2012. Chairman Lent is planning to attend the National School Board Association’s
Annual Conference in April, and encouraged other board members to go if possible, stating it’s a very worthwhile
experience. Superintendent Boland also mentioned the Northwest Council for Computer Education on March 14-16,
2012, in Seattle, as another option.
Teacher Appreciation Discussion
Chairman Lent had asked Margaret Wimborne, Coordinator of Communications and Community Engagement, to look
into the cost of a newspaper ad for teacher appreciation. Margaret shared the different options available and the cost
associated with it. The Board is looking at a way to ask the community to join them in honoring and showing
appreciation for our teachers. A discussion was held and several options proposed. Chairman Lent asked everyone to
give it some more thought so the Board could look at doing something in early January.

Bond Resolution Discussion
Superintendent Boland led a discussion reviewing the scope of work identified in the previous bond elections and what
items still need to be addressed. He shared handouts comparing the November 2009 bond proposal to May 2010
proposal, including a financial breakdown of how they came up with that number, a financial analysis showing relative
tax rates for the plant facility levy and the proposed bond and information from a bonding agent. Discussions were held
regarding the proposed bond scope, bond amount, bonding agent and a timeline for a resolution. The last day to submit
election information to the County for a March 13, 2012 election is January 27. Board members also discussed
contacting community members that have expressed an interest in helping with a bond campaign.
Jerry Wixom moved to adjourn to Executive Session. Lisa Burtenshaw seconded. A roll call vote was taken:

Lisa Burtenshaw moved to return to Open Meeting. Deidre Warden seconded. Motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Boland shared information regarding the recipients of the District Technology Integration Grants that
were announced today.
Jerry Wixom moved to adjourn. Deidre Warden seconded. Meeting adjourned at 3:10 PM.
