SPECIALORDERSOFTHEDAY: a.EmissaryofExcellence KarlaLaOrange,DirectorofElementary,thankedeveryoneforhelpingtomakeOneDistrictOneBooka success.Karlasharedthat4,159familiesinthedistrictreceivedacopyofTrumpetoftheSwantoreadat homewiththeirchildren.Ifeveryonereadthe300minutesallottedatotalof1,247,000minuteswould havebeenreadduringthemonthofFebruaryinthedistrict.Karlawantedtorecognizetwopeoplein particularforgoingtheextramiletohelpmaketheeventsosuccessful.First,CamiSmith,Education FoundationDirector,forherhelpwiththereceptionandalsohelpingtosecureadditionalfundsto purchasethebookssoparentswouldnothaveto.ThesecondpersonisMargaretWimborne, CoordinatorofCommunicationsandCommunityEngagement,whowasinstrumentalinconnectingus withtheradiostationandnewspapertogettheinformationaboutliteracyouttothecommunity. MargaretwasalsoabletoreachouttothelocalRotaryClub,whoprovidedfundingforawonderful receptiontokickofftheevent. ChairmanLentthankedCamiandMargaretforallofthethingstheydoeverydayforthedistrictand presentedeachofthemwithacertificateandtokenofappreciation. 03/13/2012District91BoardMinutesPage 1 of 4 b.VolunteeroftheMonth KrisSmith,LongfellowElementaryPrincipal,introducedDr.RonLecheltastheVolunteeroftheMonth. Dr.Lechelt,aretiredphysician,hasvolunteeredatLongfellowforthepast7yearsandisagreatassetto theteachersandstudentsheworkswith.Mrs.HammondandMrs.Vos,twooftheteachersthatbenefit fromDr.[;-w;Œ·x­help,alsothankedhimandaddedthatitisfuntoseetherelationshipsandtrusthe buildswiththestudents.Dr.Lecheltsaiditisanhonortogettogotoschoolandhelpthechildren. ChairmanLentthankedDr.Lecheltforhisservicetothestudentsandthedistrictandpresentedhimwith acertificateandatokenofappreciation. CamireviewedtheupdatedticketsalesfortheTetonToyotaTruckRaffleandstatedsheisworking onanewcampaigntokeepitgoinguntilthedrawinginSeptember. th CollegePathwaysNightistomorrow,March14,atSkylineHighSchoolforstudentsingrades8‘ u EducationFoundationpostersarebeingputinalloftheschools,theyarereallybigpostersshowing thetaxcreditsandbenefitsforcontributionsmadetotheEd.Foundation. 03/13/2012District91BoardMinutesPage 2 of 4 e.FirstReadingofBoardPolicy‘ReductioninForce SuperintendentBolandreviewedthatonepieceoftheStudentsComeFirstlegislationwastheeliminationof seniorityorcontractstatusassociatedwiththereductioninforcepolicythatnecessitatedatotalrewriteof the7z­·©z-·x­policywhichisbasedsolelyonseniority.Thepolicywasdevelopedcooperativelyfromthree subcommitteesandtheirrepresentationontheExecutiveCommittee.SuperintendentBolandstatedthatthis policyisnotbeingdevelopedwithasenseofurgencybecausewethinkwemightneedtoimposeitthisyearit numberofpoliciesthathastobedevelopedinresponsetothenewlegislation.Thepolicy issimplyoneofa presentedtonightwillappearontheAprilagendaforasecondreadingandtheninMay,alongwiththe administrativeprocedures,asanactionitem.Thedocumentwillbepostedonthedistrictwebpageforpublic reviewandcomments.SuperintendentBolandcommendedthecommitteechairsforthehardworkandgreat leadershipshownwhileworkingtodevelopthispolicy.Adiscussionwasheld. f.{Ò¦;©z“·;“7;“·x­Report‘ SuperintendentBolandreviewedthepreliminaryworkbeingdonebytheprojectmanagementteamto th movingtheteacherandclassroomstuffthatwilloccuraswemovethe9gradetothe formulateaplanfor highschoolsandrepurposeClairEGaletothenewMagnetHighSchool.Atthistimeeverythingisstillinthe preliminarystagesuntiltheycanworkoutaplanforthescope,scheduleandcosts.TheSuperintendentstated thathewaslobbiedbyRobinBusch,theClairEGaleprincipal,toconsiderallowingtheGalestaffsome additionaltimetopackthingsupattheendoftheschoolyear.Staffingupdateswerereviewedwithplansto notifythestaffoftheirnewpositionsfornextyearbyApril13hopefullyhelpingtoeliminatesomeofthehigh emotionsforpeople. SuperintendentBolandalsoreviewedtheStateDepartmentof97Ò-·zš“x­StudentsComeFirsttimelineand thedistributionprocessfortheonetoonetechnologypiece.TheRegion6PostLegislativeTourisscheduled th forTuesday,April10,whichmeanstheyanticipatetheLegislaturewilladjournintimetoputtheinformation togetherbeforethen. TheSuperintendentalsostatedthattheDistricthadreceivedanothercharterschoolpetitiononFebruary28, 3rdat7:00pm, 2012.KarlaLaOrangewillleadtheauditreview,startingwithapublichearingmeetingonApril andanticipateshavingarecommendationreadyfortheboardmeetingonMay8,2012.
