HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006_03_14 Board of Trustees Idaho Falls School District No. 91 Board Meeting Minutes March 14, 2006 Administration Building Idaho Falls, ID Present from the Board of Trustees: Present from the Administration: Jerry Wixom. Chairman John Murdoch, Superintendent Ernest Jensen George Boland, Supervisor of Instruction Jerry Shively Craig Ashton, Supervisor of Instruction Tracie Miller Guy Wangsgard, Business Office Mary Ann Smith Susan Hulse, PIO and Recording Secretary Principal, Jeanne Johnson from A. H. Bush Elementary introduced a large number of Bush Bronco student singers and readers to the Board. They sang the school song, recited the school creed, and entertained the board and crowd. Jeanne Johnson stated after the performance that their school reaches AYP every year. Mrs. Johnson introduced Mrs. Janet Hart, Title 1 Teacher. Mrs. Hart wrote the school song and runs the Christmas and Spring concerts. She started the Bush Bronco Singers in 1989 and maintains an average of rdththth 60-70 3, 4, 5 and 6 grade signing each year. Chairman Jerry Wixom presented The Emissary of Excellence plaque to Mrs. Hart and stated the plaque doesn’t go far enough to thank her for all her achievements. Principal Jeanne Johnson from Bush Elementary introduced Brooke and Lisa Allen. Lisa is the new PTO President and she and her husband, Brook, have planned not one, but two carnivals for Bush. Mrs. Johnson boasted that when bumps come in the way of the Allens, they get out a four-wheeler for the problem. Jerry Wixom presented The Volunteer of the month to Mr. And Mrs. Allen and said he could not thank them enough for their time. Chairman Jerry Wixom called the board meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairman Jerry Shively ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA Mary Ann Smith moved and Tracie Miller seconded the motion to adopt the agenda as written. Motion passed. CONSENT AGENDA Jerry Shively moved and Ernest Jensen seconded the motion to adopt the agenda as written. Motion passed. Gale Junior High School Leave Heather Rasmussen Fox Hollow Elementary REPORTS Mason West, Student Representative from Idaho Falls High School, reported on the following activities: thstnd Talent Show on March 9 was a success and the 1 and 2 place winners are touring other District 91 schools and Tennis just got started. Sadie Vandersloot, Student Representative from Skyline High School reported on the following activities: thth The Lock-in on March 10 was well attended, their Talent Show will be March 16, Band is leaving soon for an out-of-state competition, Student Body Election is gearing up, and Softball and Tennis are starting up. Patron Input: Carolyn Higgins who has two children attending Sunnyside spoke in support of the Wellness and Nutrition Initiative. IFEA Report Jan discussed the progress of the IFEA Committees starting to meet. Each committee has thee teachers and three administrators on them, with the exception of the Budget committee, which also has a Board Member. Education Foundation Report Brian Arave reported on the new partnership with School District 91 and Bonneville County in the “United Way” in-kind project with Office Depot. Every other Friday supplies are available for donation from Office Depot. Brian is ready to take requests from Principals to help them with their supply needs. The 5/4/06 Scholarship Dinner has already raised $12,000 and the newest development is the Educational Showcase that will run from 6-7 p.m. focusing on secondary school preparation for higher education. The Education Foundation is also working with Shelly Smede to underwrite the 10/4 and 10/5 Teacher in- service reaching out to local teachers from this area to get training here in IF. Superintendents Report th Superintendent, John Murdoch, passed out initiations to the 5 Grade Musical to the Board of Trustees and announced the Blue Ribbon Award plaque awarded to the district. Direct Math and Direct Reading Craig Ashton reported scores are all up in 2006 from 2005 and 2004 in all categories.. Policies st The policies will be reviewed and discussed during the next working board meeting on March 21. Revised Policy 605.2 – Programs for Gifted Students (Tab 3 pg 15) 6 Board Meeting Minutes-March. 14, 2006 Page Three Revised Policy 807.0 – Salary Schedule Placement (Tab 4 pg 16) Revised Policy 809.1 – Sick Leave (Tab 5 pg 17) Revised Policy 809.5 – Military Leave (Tab 6 pg 18) New Policy 809.1.2 – Transfer and Acceptance of Sick Leave (Tab 7 pg 19) Revised Policy 1007.5 – Health Consultative Services (Tab 8 pg 20) New Policy 1005.3.13 – Gangs / Gang Activity (Tab 9 pg 21) PROPOSALS rd Wellness and Nutrition advanced to 3 Reading will be discussed at the next Board work session meeting st on March 21. ACTION ITEMS Motion was moved by Ernest Jensen and seconded by Tracie Miller to accept the corrected resolution setting Trustee Election May 16, 2006. Motion passed. Motion was moved by Tracie Miller and seconded by Jerry Shively to Approve the December 7, 2005 School Closure. Motion passed. Ernest Jensen moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to move to Executive Session. Motion passed. Ernest Jensen moved and Tracie Miller seconded the motion to move to open session. Motion passed. Mary Ann Smith moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion passed.
