HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001_08_28 Board MinutesIDAHO FALLS SCHOOL DISTRICT NO.91 BOARD OF TRUSTEES Board Meeting Minutes August 28, 2001 Executive Session: The Board of Trustees met in Executive Session to review personnel and negotiation items according to Idaho Code. Opening Ceremonies Trustee Robert Collette led the Pledge of Allegiance. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Sharon Parry to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion passed. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY The Board of Trustees and Administration honored Idaho Falls High School Mathematics teacher Suzanne Wisner as the recipient of the National Science Foundation's 2000 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. This is the nation's highest honor for elementary and secondary teachers of mathematics and science. CONSENT AGENDA It was moved by Ernest Jensen and seconded by Sharon Parry to approve the Consent Agenda which included the minutes of the August 14, 2000, Board meeting and staff actions. Motion passed. Patron Input: None received. IFEA Report: IFEA President Mary Farner, on behalf of the Executive Counsel, informed the Board of Trustees that the Idaho Falls Education Association would support the School Plant Facility election. President Farner noted that the Counsel were concerned that increases in the School Plant Facility levy would put the Supplemental Levy in jeopardy and make it hard to hire quality teachers if the Supplemental levy should have to be reduced. Community Education Report: Community Education Director Karen Leibert presented information on the Community Education program which included the variety of classes offered and income generated by revenue from tuition fees and facility rentals. China Trip Report: Zoe Jorgensen, Bush Elementary School Spectrum teacher, gave a presentation of her recent visit to China. The purpose of the visit was to experience educational philosophies and practices in China as well as observances and interaction with the teachers and educational system in China. Zoe represented Idaho on this trip. Page Two — Board Meeting Minutes August 28, 2001 Superintendent's Report: Superintendent Manning reported on the Administrative Retreat held August 12-14. Re reviewed the goals and activities for all District 91 administrators which establishes the principal as the instrumental leader in the school. The charge to administrators includes: staff development, aligned and assessed curriculum and a specified number of classroom visits over the course of the school year. The District is beginning to see results in increased student learning. ACTION ITEMS Letter of Authorization: It was moved by Ernest Jensen and seconded by Robert Collette to declare an emergency and request that the State Board of Education grant a letter of authorization for Terry Toombs for the 2001-02 school year. Motion passed. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Sharon Parry to adjourn the meeting. Time 9:05 P.M. Motion passed. is is
