HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001_09_25 Board MinutesIDAHO FALLS SCHOOL DISTRICT NO.91 BOARD OF TRUSTEES Board Meeting Minutes September 25, 2001 Executive Session: The Board met in Executive to review personnel and negotiation items according to IDAHO CODE. IOPENING CEREMONIES Superintendent Dale Manning led the Pledge of Allegiance. SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY Debbie Ford, who has been a bus driver for District 91 for 12 years, was honored by the Board of Trustees and Administration as Emissary of Excellence for September. MATCHING FUND REQUEST Eagle Rock Junior High School Assistant Principal Brian Armes introduced Choir teacher Bruce Ford and Computer Technician Nancy Hart who requested matching funds for the following items: 1 set of risers for the Choir Department, in the amount of $293.50 and computer software, in the amount of $231.85. It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Robert Collette to approve the requests for matching funds. Motion passed. Total amount of matching funds awarded to date: $6,325.35 CONSENT AGENDA ' It was moved b Sharon Parr and seconded b R approve the Y y y Robert Collette to Consent Agenda which included minutes of the Board meetings held September 11 and 13, 2001. Motion passed. REPORTS No patron reports. Student Representatives: Mary Gilbert, Idaho Falls High School student representative, reported on Homecoming activities and the results of the football game. IFEA Report: Katy Denney reported that the Children's Fund had grown to ' $500,000. She also noted that the IFEA hosted a Pizza night for all the newly hired teachers in anticipation of their first payday. Page Two -- Board Meeting Minutes September 25, 2001 I ACT Test Score Results: Curriculum Supervisor Craig Ashton reported on ACT ms-rie11-7 test score results. 521 students took the test. -Adbeemaw were above both state d AvF-RAM- National averages. District scores were up in all areas over last year. SGoieeS ' Superintendent's Report: Superintendent Manning informed the Board of the dedication and caring that teachers and administrators demonstrated in helping ' students understand the events of the terrorism attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. He also noted that students held fund raising activities to aid the victims and students at Idaho Falls High School put together an assembly in recognition of the heroic efforts of all involved in the tragedy and in memory of those who lost their lives. He expressed great pride in the efforts of teachers, administrators and the students of District 91. INFORMATION ITEM ' Autodialer System: Ken Schow and John Christensen presented the recommendation for the Autodialer system. The system will be used for schools to notify parents of their children's absences. The initial cost for the system. is $9,621.50 with an annual cost of $1,104. The Board authorized the installment of the system. tACTION ITEMS SPFF Election _ Official Results: It was moved by Robert Collette and seconded by Jerry Wixom to accept the official results of the School Plant Facility election held September 13, 2001. The levy, in the amount of $1,920,000, was passed by a yes vote of 2,353 with an 87.5% rate of approval. Motion passed. FY01 Audit to ort and Executive Summary: Judy Brower of Galusha, Higgins and ' Galusha, presented the FY01 Audit Report to the Board of Trustees. She noted a decrease in the fund balance which was anticipated and the effect of the PERSI gains sharing funds on the overall budget. She also noted that the Governor's 1.5% holdback affected the fund balance. Ms. Brower informed the Board of Trustees that the District was in sound financial condition. It was moved by Sharon Parry and seconded by Robert Collette to accept the FY01 Audit Report and to enter the report into the formal records. Motion passed. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Robert Collette to adjourn the meeting. Time: 8:45 P,M. Motion passed. VI. ACTION ITEMS VI -A. Accept Official Results of the School Plant Facility Election held September 13, 2001 The official results of the SPFF Election are as follows: Amount: $1,920,000 Duration: Ten years Votes Approving: 2,353 Votes Against: 335 Voided Votes: -0- Rate of Approval: 87.5% IDAHO FALLS SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 91 BOARD OF TRUSTEES Minutes of Special Board Meeting September 13, 2001— 8:30 P.M. CANVASS OF SCHOOL PLANT FACILITIES LEVY ELECTION We the Board of Trustees of the Idaho Falls School District No. 91, acting as the Board of Canvassers for the purpose of canvassing the returns of the School Plant Facilities Levy Election, September 13, 2001, do hereby declare the following Trustees were present: Alan L. Reed, Chairperson Ernest Jensen, Vice Chairperson Jerry Wixom, Member Sharon Parry, Treasurer Robert Collette, Clerk That upon the canvass of the returns of the said special election in a special meeting of the Trustees, it was ascertained that the votes cast upon the ballot question were as shown for each specific polling place: Idaho Falls High School YES 110 NO 14 VOID 0 Skyline High School 62 10 0 Bowes 199 15 0 Bunker 169 20 0 Bush 129 14 0 Edgemont 228 22 0 Emerson 91 16 0 Erickson 88 15 0 Fox Hollow 128 19 0 Hawthorne 117 24- 0 Linden Park 210 31 0 Longfellow 230 37 0 Osgood 77 15 0 Sunnvside 194 29 0 Temule View 154 30 0 Westside 167 24 0 TOTALS 2.353 335 0 Thereupon, Trustee Ernest Jensen moved and Trustee Sharon Parry seconded the following motion: I move that the Trustees of Idaho Falls School District #91, acting as the official Board of Canvassers, accept the unofficial results of the Special Plant Facilities election as just publicly read, and as certified to, by the boards of election; with the votes approving the measure 2 ja with votes against the measure 335 and with 0 voided ballots cast; yielding 87.5% rate of approval. Ayes 5 Nays 0 ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Sharon Parry to adjourn. Time: 9:20 PM Motion passed.
