HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001_10_09 Board MinutesIDAHO FALLS SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 91 BOARD OF TRUSTEES Board Meeting Minutes October 9, 2001 Executive Session: The Board met in Executive Session to review negotiation items according to IDAHO CODE. OPENING CEREMONIES Sharon Parry led the Pledge of Allegiance. CONSENT AGENDA It was moved by Ernest Jensen and seconded by Robert Collette to approve the Consent Agenda which included minutes of the Board meeting held September 25, 2001 with the noted change on page 2 next to last sentence of paragraph 1. All District average scores were above both state and National averages. Also the payment of claims in the amount of $1,852,579.05, Motion passed. REPORTS Patron Input Patty Stoner living at 1296 Ada Avenue is the parent of a student at Taylorview. When she went to school to pick up her sick child she found her unattended in a closed dark room having convulsions. Paramedics were called. She expressed her concern that this not happen again to any other student. Mrs. Stoner is an employee of the district. IFEA Report: Mary Farrier requested that a policy be established on the responsibility of who stays with an ill child. She also requested that a joint effort be made to establish guidelines on how the news is used in the classrooms when disasters happen. An age appropriate guideline on how much is too much for students to handle. Mary also expressed the desire to be actively involved in the search for a new superintendent when the time is appropriate. Superintendent's Report: Superintendent Manning informed the Board that a follow-up will be placed on the agenda for the Principal's Meeting tomorrow, October 10, 2001, regarding the situation at Taylorview. A review of the current procedure will be discussed. The superintendent indicated that it might be appropriate to prepare a suggested policy on news in the classroom for the second meeting in January. Mr. Manning stated that no child should be at risk and this serious situation will be addressed. On Channel 6 early morning news Karen Beck will talk about the district music program. Enrollment has declined 193 students this year. Kindergarten and high school students revealed the most decline in enrollment which equals approximately 7 classroom units or $584,000 in revenue. The good news is that the district attendance policy seems to be working well because the attendance figures for the first month is up to what it was two years ago. • ACTION ITEMS Travel request: It was moved by Sharon Parry and seconded by Robert Collette to approve the IFHS Debate travel request which includes Skyline. Motion passed. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Ernest Jensen and seconded by Sharon Parry to adjourn the meeting. Time: 12:20 p.m. Motion passed. After the meeting Mr. Manning said the Board authorized Sharon Parry to contact an attorney to see if a way could be provided to get detailed claims information from the medical insurance company so the district could self insure. The total amount of $1.0,000 could be expended. 0
