Preliminary screening has been completed and finalists will be interviewed beginning next week. The process is on schedule and the search team will be expanded prior to on -site visits. IFEA Report: President Mary Farrier informed the Board of Trustees that the Idaho Education Association (IEA) is circulating a petition regarding the State appropriation to public education. The petition requests that the State Legislature maintain the $933 appropriation for 2002-2003. The petitions have been circulated statewide and will be hand delivered to the Legislature on February 20, 2002. Mrs. Farrier also informed the Board of the negotiations procedure used by the Boise School District and noted that she would be interested in learning more about the process. Superintendent's Report: Superintendent Manning supported the IEA's petition to the Legislature regarding the $933 appropriation to public schools. He encouraged the Board of Trustees to support this issue and will ask all administrators to do the same. A united front is very important in getting this message across to the Legislature. Three pieces of legislation are being presented that erode the base appropriation. The first is tax credits which will take money from the base appropriation; the second is a requirement for adding a pre -kindergarten program with no funding attached; and the third involves the business community with the schools, which sounds good, but would be a huge cost factor that comes directly from the base. Further erosion to the base must be stopped even though some of the programs may be "good" programs. Information/Discussion Items: Board Policy 312.0 --• School Properties Disposal Procedure was presented to the Board of Trustees for a second reading. No changes were made. Adjournment: It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Alan Reed to adjourn the meeting. Time: 12:15 P.M. Motion passed.
