Board Meeting Minutes
April 23, 2002
Opening Ceremonies: Chairman Alan Reed led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present from, the Board of Trustees and Administration:

Mr. Collette was present for the Executive Session and excused from the Business meeting.
Adoption of the Agenda: It was moved by Ernest Jensen and seconded by Sharon Parry to
adopt the agenda as presented. Motion passed.
Special Orders of the Day
HVAC technician Mike McGuyer was honored by the Board of Trustees and Administration as
the Emissary of Excellence.
Matching Fund Requests: The following matching fund requests were presented to the Board
of Trustees:

It was moved by Sharon Parry and seconded by Jerry Wixom to approve the requests for
matching funds. Motion passed.
Consent Agenda: It was moved by Ernest Jensen and seconded by Sharon Parry to approve the
minutes of the April 9, 2002, Board meeting and the staff action items as listed. Motion passed.
Reports
Patron Input:
Three Linden Park Elementary parents expressed support for the proposed Linden Park Reading
Program. One parent preferred that the early release day be scheduled for Friday instead of
Wednesday.

IFEA President Mary Farner expressed concern on behalf of teachers and the Association for the
State Accountability Commission public meetings relating to the implementation of state
achievement standards and the affect this could have on teachers statewide. Superintendent
Manning noted that the ISBA (Idaho School Boards Association) and the IASA (Idaho
Association for School Administrators) have also expressed concerns.
Student Representative Reports:
Adam Harris and newly elected representative Christina Larsen handed out treats to the Board of
Trustees and Administration and reported on student elections, the accomplishments of the Royal
Blue Choir which received first place in competition in Las Vegas, NV, sports and the
Cheerleading Squad who recently placed I Ph in National competition.
Allyson Zollinger, newly elected Student Representative from Idaho Falls High School reported
on class elections, club activities and sports.
Action Items
Award Bid for Revision of Loadingyarking Zones: It was moved by Jerry Wixom and
seconded by Ernest Jensen to award the overlay bid to BECO Construction of Idaho Falls as the
low bidder meeting specifications. Amount of Bid: $46,900. Motion passed.
Award Bid for Consumable Supplies: It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Sharon
Parry to award the bids for consumable supplies to the vendors listed as the low bidders meeting
specifications. Amount of bid: $168,070.05. Motion passed.
Science Textbook Adoption: It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Sharon Parry to
approve the Science Textbook adoption as recommended by the Committee subject to any
changes. Motion passed.
Linden Park Reading Program: It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Sharon Parry
to approve the Linden Park Reading program for the 2002-03 school year. The program will
identify one day a week for early release as determined by the school. A report will be made to
the Board during the 2002-03 school year regarding the progress of this program. Motion passed.
School Closure — April 16, 2002: It was moved by Alan Reed and seconded by Sharon Parry to
declare an emergency closure day on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, due to adverse weather conditions.
Motion passed.
Level IV Grievance: It was moved by Sharon Parry and seconded by Jerry Wixom to authorize
the Administration to immediately reinstate the salary and appropriate step placement for Teacher
`A' 2001-02. Motion passed.
Adjournment: It was moved by Jerry Wixom and seconded by Sharon Parry to adjourn the
meeting. Time: 8:49 P.M. Motion passed.
