HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004_04_27BOARD OF TRUSTEES IDAHO FALLS SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 91 Board Meeting Minutes April 27, 2004 Media Center Skyline High School 6:30 p.m. Present from the Board of Trustees Ernest Jensen, Chairman Jared Fuhriman Sharon Parry Jerry Shively Excused: Jerry Wixom Present from the Administration: John Murdoch, Superintendent George Boland, Supervisor of Instruction Craig Ashton, Supervisor of Instruction Guy Wangsgard, Business Lanae Jensen, Recording Secretary OPENING CEREMONIES The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ernest Jensen. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA Jared Fuhriman moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to move Action Item a - Math Textbook Adoption Grades K-5 from Action Item a to Proposal c, and adopt the agenda as so amended. Motion passed. CONSENT AGENDA Jared Fuhriman moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to approve the Consent Agenda, containing Board Meeting Minutes of April 13 and 20th, 2004, and the following staff actions: Resignations: Colleen Wilson Michelle Dennert Debra Nowatzki Kimberly Stowell Virginia Anderson Judy Seydel Motion passed. Karie Josten Ann Marie Whetten Sharon Feldman Merilee Johnson Karol Colson Jennifer Kerner REPORTS/INPUT/INFORMATION Andy Benson, student from IFHS, reported on the following student activities: student body elections, Mr. IFHS competition winner was Gordon Taylor, Tiger-Griz Track Meet, and the Tiger Times was the recipient of awards at the recent competition. Tran Turner, student rep from Skyline, reported on the following student activities: student body elections, AP testing, school winding down for the end of the school year. Board Meeting Minutes — April 27, 2004 Page Two Patron Input — None IFEA — Gene Lund, IFEA President, expressed support for the Linden Park early release schedule, and discussed the five-year anniversary of the shooting tragedy at Columbine High School. Mr. Lund supported our district preparation to make our district safer. Superintendent's Report Dr. Murdoch gave a current financial update detailing the financial history of the last year for School District 491. The endowment fund, good attendance and medical insurance costs have put the district in a better financial condition. Legislative cuts, lower student enrollments, and lower transportation revenue are among items lowering revenue for next year. The net effect is a positive $28, 182. The Employee retirement dinner will be May 6th at the Shilo with social hour at 6:00 p.m. and dinner at 7:00. PROPOSALS Linden Park request for continuation of early release schedule — Karla LaGrange, Principal of Linden Park Elementary School, discussed their release schedule and reported on an analysis of the percentage of students proficient in reading and math. Linden Park is requesting a continuation of their early release schedule. 2004-05 Bunker Proposal — Rodger Barlow, Principal of Bunker Elementary School, discussed the proposed new school schedule, its ultimate goals and program plan. ACTION ITEMS Copy Paper Bid - Sharon Parry moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to accept the copy paper bid from Chemstat Products for $53,760. Motion passed. Jerry Shively moved and Jared Fuhriman seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion passed.
