Present from the Administration: John Murdoch, Superintendent George Boland, Supervisor of Instruction Craig Ashton, Supervisor of Instruction Guy Wangsgard, Business Lanae Jensen, Recording Secretary OPENING CEREMONIES The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Craig Ashton. VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH Superintendent Murdoch introduced Daryl Snyder, Education Foundation President. Mrs. Snyder has worked tirelessly for the foundation. Dr. Murdoch listed several of the highlights from the work with the Education Foundation, and commended Mrs. Snyder for her work. Ernest Jensen awarded Mrs. Snyder the Volunteer of the Year award. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA Jerry Wixom moved and Sharon Parry seconded the motion to adopt the agenda as written. Motion passed. MATCHING FUNDS Jared Fuhriman moved and Sharon Parry seconded the motion to approve matching funds for the following schools: Linden Park Elementary $ 541.39 Idaho Falls High School $1,199.00 Total matching funds requested: $1,740.39 Motion passed. Board Meeting Minutes — June 22, 2004 Page Two CONSENT AGENDA Sharon Parry moved and Jerry Wixom seconded the motion approving the consent agenda consisting of Board Meeting Minutes of June 8, 2004 and the following staff actions: New Hires: Resignations: Jewell Jones Holly Stewart Rebecca Klein Sheryl Phillips Debbie Melander Peggy Sharp Janalyn Owens Marcia Hansen Tara Reiss Stephanie Remsburg Jacalyn Stephens Kristin Thompson Sara Waite Andra Wall Alana Wells Staff actions also included a letter of rationale of the need for a Letter of Authorization for a Spanish speaking ESL position. Motion passed. REPORTS Patron Input Basil Barna spoke to the board regarding personnel issues. IFEA — no report Superintendent's Report Dr. Murdoch noted the passing of Larry Caldwell, past Director of Region VI Idaho Falls Education Association. Mrs. Caldwell's wife, Nancy, teaches at Westside Elementary School. Summer School is underway with 326 students enrolled in elementary ISAT summer school, 360 in the ESL and Title I summer schools, and approximately 160 enrolled in secondary summer school. A major effort is being made with the remodel at Bush. Efforts are on schedule with Ferrell McArthur's department doing an outstanding job. Food service is fully operable. Dr. Murdoch introduced Dick Clute, Supervisor of Federal Programs. Mr. Clute discussed Strategy VI - Student Support. He introduced Kay Moor, Principal of Sunnyside Elementary, and Susan Holmes, school counselor, who discussed counselor learning teams and how they can best meet student needs. Trina Caudle, Assistant Principal at Skyline High School and Robin Busch, teacher at Skyline, described the character education program at Skyline and how it is meeting student needs. Supt. Murdoch introduced Craig Ashton, Supervisor of Educational Services, who discussed the middle school health adoption. Susan Schultz, teacher at Taylorview and member of the health adoption committee reported that the committee had studied six different texts and recommends that the district place the Teen Health program published by Glencoe for 30 days public review. Board Meeting Minutes — June 22, 2004 Page Three PROPOSALS Revised Education Foundation By-laws — Rebecca Casper, of the Education Foundation, discussed the revised by-laws. Language has been streamlined and clarified. ACTION ITEMS FY — 05 Budget Hearing Guy Wangsgard, Coordinator of Business, discussed the 05 budget in detail through a powerpoint presentation. After a general discussion, Sharon Parry moved and Jared Fuhriman seconded the motion to adopt the FY-05 budget of $72,217,524 with the understanding the presentation includes estimates of salary and benefits that are yet to be determined by negotiations. Motion passed. Fox Hollow and Idaho Falls High School parking lots bids Jerry Wixom moved and Sharon Parry seconded the motion to approve awarding the parking lot improvements for both Fox Hollow Elementary School in the amount of $61,183.00 and Idaho Falls High School in the amount of $66,329.00 to HK as the low bidder meeting specifications. Motion passed. EXECUTIVE SESSION Jared Fuhriman moved and Sharon Parry seconded the motion to move to executive session for discussion of personnel and negotiations items. Motion passed. Jerry Wixom moved and Jared Fuhriman seconded the motion to move to open session. Motion passed. Sharon Parry moved and Jerry Wixom seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion passed.
