Present from the Board of Trustees Jared Fuhriman Sharon Parry Jerry Shively Jerry Wixom Excused: Ernest Jensen, Chairman Conducting: Jared Fuhriman, Vice Chair Present from the Administration: John Murdoch, Superintendent George Boland, Supervisor of Instruction Craig Ashton, Supervisor of Instruction Guy Wangsgard, Business Lanae Jensen, Recording Secretary OPENING CEREMONIES The Pledge of Allegiance was led by scouts Brian Jones and Kyle Klinger of Troop 139. Emmisary Of Excellence Val Montano, Principal of Erickson Elementary School, introduced Gaylene Anderson, school secretary at Erickson. Mrs. Anderson has been at Erickson School for 21 years, 17 of them as the school secretary. She has cared for many students and staff and Mrs. Montano commended her for her commitment to Erickson. Sharon Parry awarded Mrs. Anderson the Emissary of Excellence Award. Volunteer of the Month Mrs. Montano then introduced Carol Cram, a volunteer at Erickson. Mrs. Cram began volunteering at Erickson after she retired, and has given many hours of volunteer work there. Jared Fuhriman awarded Mrs. Cram the Volunteer of the Month award. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA Jerry Shively moved and Sharon Parry seconded the motion to adopt the agenda as written. Motion passed. MATCHING FUNDS Jerry Shively moved and Jerry Wixom seconded the motion to approve matching funds in the following amounts: Eagle Rock Jr. High School $757.50 Fox Hollow $2,297.16 Motion passed. Electronic Defibrillator 4-Wheeler with snow removal equipment CONSENT AGENDA Sharon Parry moved and Jerry Wixom seconded the motion to approve Board Meeting Minutes of September 14, 2004. Motion passed. School Board Minutes — September 28, 2004 Page Two REPORTS / INFORMATION Student Reports Melanie Falls, Student Representative from Skyline High School, reported on the following school activities: received "Best of Schools" award at the July 4th parade, Homecoming week, student VIP Parking, Red Ribbon Week. Andy Benson, student representative from Idaho Falls High School, reported on the following school activities: Homecoming, Emotion Bowl Week, Club Week, football, cross country, and Freedom's Answer. Patron Input — none Education Foundation Rebecca Casper, Chair of the Education Foundation, reported that the Fall Kickoff was held September 7, with all schools represented. The Education Foundation is working to develop a comprehensive plan and is collaborating with the district. Mrs. Casper reported that Vonme Combs has resigned as Zone III representative, and the Foundation will miss her efforts. The Foundation is requesting an Education Foundation flyer be included in the city billing in November. IFEA Gene Lund, IFEA President, discussed the relationship between the IFEA and the district. At the next Board Meeting results of an IFEA survey will be shared. Superintendent's Report Dick Clute reported on the Ellis Language Acquisition software, describing the acquisition of the USOE grant and completion of negotiations for placement of the Ellis software with District 491 at Skyline and Eagle Rock. This software allows the use of 24 languages. Ellis software will be loaded on the computers of all ELL staff members. Congressional grants of Ellis corportation gifts amount to almost $500,000. Policy Revisions A first reading was giving the following policy revisions: Section 302.2, 302.4, 303.0, 304.3, 305.0, 306.0, 306.2, 306.3, 306.6, 306.7, 306.9, 308.1 - (Fiscal Management) Section 1102.0 — 1111.0 — (Charter Schools) Section 603.1 — (Graduation Requirements) Section 1003.4 — (Conditions for Attendance) PROPOSALS 2004-05 Calendar — George Boland discussed the proposed calendars for 2004-05. Four options were presented. The calendar options will be discussed at future board meetings. ACTION ITEMS Sharon Parry moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to approve the following travel: Skyline High School Charter Education Conference — Houston, Texas, Oct. 20 — 23, 2004 Skyline DECA Marketing Conference — Phoenix, Arizona — Nov. 188 — 21, 2004 Motion passed. Jerry Wixom moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion passed.
