HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004_12_14BOARD OF TRUSTEES IDAHO FALLS SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 91 Board Meeting Minutes December 14, 2004 Administration Building Idaho Falls, ID 12:00 Noon Present from the Board of Trustees Ernest Jensen, Chairman Jared Fuhriman Sharon Parry Jerry Shively Jerry Wixom Present from the Administration: John Murdoch, Superintendent George Boland, Supervisor of Instruction Craig Ashton, Supervisor of Instruction Guy Wangsgard, Business Lanae Jensen, Recording Secretary OPENING CEREMONIES The Pledge of Allegiance was led by John Murdoch. EMMISARY OF EXCELLENCE Karla LaGrange, Principal of Linden Park Elementary, introduced Teresa Richardson, librarian at Linden Park. Mrs. LaGrange noted her appreciation of the work Mrs. Richardson has completed in the library. She has completely reorganized the library to make it easier to find materials and teaches the library curriculum thoroughly. Mrs. Richardson volunteered her own time during the summer to keep the library open for the students. Mr. Ernest Jensen commended Mrs. Richardson and awarded her the Emissary of Excellence Award. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA Jerry Shively moved and Jared Fuhriman seconded the motion to adopt the agenda as written. Motion passed. CONSENT AGENDA Jerry Wixom moved and Sharon Parry seconded the motion to approve the consent agenda consisting of Board Meeting Minutes of November 23, 2004 and December 2, 2004, payment of claims for December, and the following staff actions: Tallene Johnson -Forrest Family Leave Extension Gr. 5 Temple View Elementary Molly Mitchell Resignation Gr. 2 Fox Hollow Elementary Motion passed. Board Meeting Minutes — December 14, 2004 Page Two REPORTS Patrons — None IFEA — Gene Lund, IFEA President, noted that on Thursday, Dec. 16 at 8:30 p.m., Idaho Public TV will run a "Dialogue" program discussing pay for performance. Mr. Lund also wished the Board a very merry Christmas. Education Foundation - none Superintendent's Report — Dr. Murdoch reported that Qwest had filed a petition in federal court disputing its property values for the last three years. A judge has made a ruling in favor of Qwest, and as a result, tax districts in the state of Idaho will be making refunds to Qwest. Our district's refund will be $148,249.37. Dr. Murdoch noted the passing of one of the district bus drivers, Polly Marquez. He also noted that his sister had this day received a heart transplant and was doing well. Supt. Murdoch introduced Craig Ashton, who gave a demonstration of two new software packages: 1) Leader's Edge — this software tracks student growth in RIT scores and would be a great help to administrators. Developed by NWEA, this software gives information in many different sub groups, allowing teachers and administrators to see student needs. 2) Academic Accelerator — this software is used in school planning, curriculum, and testing. This software is a good match with our district, navigating through instruction, growth, proficiency, and achievement. The company has offered to pilot this in Idaho Falls on a limited basis. Leader's Edge is available now, and Academic Accelerator may be piloted in the future. Motion passed. Jerry Wixom moved and Jared Fuhriman seconded the motion to move to open session. Motion passed. Sharon Parry moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion passed.
