OPENING CEREMONIES
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Sharon Parry.
ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA
Sharon Parry moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to adopt the agenda as written.
Motion passed.
Jr. High School Electives
Superintendent Murdoch distributed an information handout describing junior high electives for
2005-06. With a substantial drop in numbers of students, some electives are changing. Non -
proficient students will receive an additional math elective.
Academic Achievement Trends
Craig Ashton discussed state standards and the variety of comparable proficiency levels in math
and reading listed for different states. Thus, proficiency levels cannot always be compared state
to state. Mr. Ashton discussed ACT quartile comparisons and reported that District 491
continues to rank above state and national averages.
Alternative Graduation Mechanism
Dr. Murdoch reported that Region 6 is recommending a proposed alternative graduation
mechanism permitted by the State Department of Education. This allows those students not
reaching proficient ISAT scores to demonstrate proficiency on an alternate test. The proposed
tests are published by Plato, which has been approved by the State Board of Education. Dr.
Murdoch discussed this proposal in detail. The proposal will appear on the April 121h school
board agenda as an action item.
Elementary Music
Jerry Shively discussed the elementary music program.
Curriculum Committee Meeting
A board curriculum committee meeting was scheduled for Wed., April 6, at 7:00 a.m. at the
District Office.
Jerry Wixom moved and Jerry Shively seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion passed.
