ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA: Jerry Wixom moved to amend the agenda to include Action Item d., Move Tuesday, April 26, 2011 Board Work Session to Thursday, April 28, 2011 due to a conflict with the scheduled Post -Legislative Tour. Lisa Burtenshaw seconded. Motion carried unanimously. REPORTS/INPUT/INFORMATION a. Student Reports Mallory Murdoch, Skyline High School Student Body Rep., reported: • 2011-12 Student Body Elections were held last week, Jessica Hansen was elected as President for the upcoming school year. No candidates ran for Student Body Board Representative but they hope to fill the position soon. Class elections will be held the last week of April. • The Annual Skyline Rummage Sale is scheduled on Friday and Saturday, April 151" & 161" in the old gym with an all -area dance on Saturday after the sale. • Mr. Skyline will be crowned on April 21" — this is the male interpretation of the Junior Miss competition. 04/12/2011 District 91 Board Minutes Page 1 of 5 "Run for Your Life Week" is scheduled May 2nd — 6t" to help promote health and fitness. The Skyline Talent Show is scheduled for May 10t" & 11t" Sierra Baker, Idaho Falls High School, reported: • Student Body and Class Elections were held prior to Spring Break in March; Johnny Hatch was elected as Student Body President for 2011-12. Sierra introduced Lexie Polson as the new Student Body School Board Rep. for 2011-12. • A Cancer Benefit Dance was held last week for area high school students • The IFHS Talent Show is tonight at the Civic Auditorium • IFHS, Skyline, Bonneville and Hillcrest are working together to co -host the Rockin' for Relief Dance on Friday, April 15t" to help raise money for the Sister Cities in Japan. • Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Monday, April 18t" from 4:45 — 7:00 p.m. • April 28t" -30t" is the Annual IFHS Rummage Sale with the Rummage Romp Dance on Friday, April 29t" in the evening. Patron Input — Mr. Suketu Gandhi spoke regarding patron input in board minutes. IFEA Report — Michelle Sakota, President, reported: • Michelle stated that she's leaving for Boise tomorrow night to attend the State Delegate Assembly. She shared that her term as President of the Idaho Falls Education Association is winding down, she is running for the resolutions position with the National Education Association. If elected, Michelle would chair the Idaho Education Associations Resolutions Committee and would speak on behalf of Idaho with the National Education Association. • The IFEA Retirement Banquet will be held on May 19t" at the Shilo, with a 6:00 p.m. social hour and dinner at 7:00. Michelle has turned a lot of the planning over to Lisa Scott this year. • Michelle shared some thoughts about the new education reform and said as she thinks of the children in our buildings it's a person that has gone the extra mile it's never been a computer. The merit pay system isn't a motivation for teachers, it's the appreciation and knowing that people care that is the motivator. d. Education Foundation — Cami Smith reported: The Education Foundation is now on Facebook. Cami asked everyone to log on to Idaho Falls Education Foundation and press the like button. The Teton Toyota Truck Raffle is nearing the end of ticket sales; the winning ticket will be drawn at the Tiger/Grizz Track Meet on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 PM. Cami shared that Mario Hernandez, with Teton Toyota, is very pleased with the success of the project so far. The Mayor's Scholarship Award Banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 27t" at 6:30 p.m. at the Shilo. e. Superintendent's Report — Guy Wangsgard, Acting Superintendent, introduced Heidi Crouch to give her presentation regarding summer school and night school programs she oversees as principal at Emerson High School. Mrs. Crouch explained that summer school will have a new look this year with the addition of an E-classroom. The E-classroom will help reduce the student drop -out rate for those students not able to attend a regular school day. The district will now have an open entry, open exit program available for students to work on credits. Mrs. Crouch stated the E-classroom will be modeled after programs currently used in both Coeur d'Alene and Bonneville School Districts. English, Algebra I & II and Government A & B will remain instructor led classes. Mrs. Crouch went on to say that the plan is to pilot the program during summer school this year and eventually incorporate it in the day program as well. Emerson High School (Grades 9-12) Evening Program Changes Heidi Crouch, Principal, proposed a change in the curriculum delivery for the night school program. Mrs. Crouch shared with the board that incorporating the Pearson's Nova Net software will allow the program to have an open entrance open exit policy allowing students to take advantage of more credit opportunities. The curriculum is based on 80% mastery, not credit hours, which allows students' to work at their own pace and should increase enrollment. The cost will be $25 for alternative high school credits, $75 for credit recovery credits and $150 for student enrolling to get ahead for graduation credits. A discussion was held. Accept Canvassed Results, Provided by Bonneville County, for the March 8, 2011 Supplemental Levy Election Jerry Wixom moved to accept the canvassed results for the March 8, 2011 Supplemental Levy vote as presented. Lisa Burtenshaw seconded. Motion passed unanimously. b. Award Bus Bid Lisa Burtenshaw made the motion to award the bus bid to Western Mountain Bus Sales, with the low bid, as recommended by the administration. Ernest Jensen seconded. Motion passed unanimously. c. Extend Superintendent's Contract through June 30, 2014 Jerry Wixom moved to extend the Superintendent's contract through June 30, 2014. Deidre Warden seconded. Motion passed unanimously. d. Move Board Work Session from Tuesday, April 26, 2011 to Thursday, April 281h, 2011. Ernest Jensen made the motion to move the April 261h board work session to Thursday, April 281h at noon in the board room. Lisa Burtenshaw seconded. Motion passed unanimously.
