Use page 62 to administer the test. Explain Write each oral vocabulary word below on the board. Read it aloud. Offer an explanation and a brief example for each word. Words About Helping assistant n. someone who helps someone else My soccer coach has an assistant for our practices. depended v. trusted for help My elderly neighbor depended on us to buy groceries for her. leaned v. rested I leaned my head on Dad’s shoulder. teamwork v. working together It takes teamwork to win a soccer game. volunteer v. to help without being paid Mom will volunteer to make cookies for the school bake sale. Discuss Guide children to see the relationship between each word and the category. Ask: When do you depend on grownups to help you? When do you use teamwork to help other people? Prompt them to use the oral vocabulary words. Read Aloud Explain that you will read aloud a story about how neighbors and friends help one another. Then read aloud “Who Will Help?” Discuss the Comprehension questions. Categorize and Classify Reread and Explain Reread “Who Will Help?” At the end of each sentence that includes an oral vocabulary word, stop and repeat the explanation of the word. Then reread the sentence. Use a Graphic Organizer Use the graphic organizer and the questions below to reinforce understanding of the relationship between each word and the category. Compare What are some parts of your body that can be sore? In what ways is feeling sore different from having a cut or a scrape?
