Words About Money afford v. to have enough money to buy something I need to save two dollars before I can afford to buy this toy. customers n. people who buy things The customers waited in line to buy books. earn v. to make money by working Sam wanted to earn money by baby-sitting for his neighbors. goods n. things that are for sale The store sold many different goods. price n. how much money it takes to buy something The price of this apple is fi fty cents. raise v. to collect money from people to pay for something The students sell cookies to raise money for their class trip. Discuss Guide children to see the relationship between each word and the category of money. Read Aloud Explain that you will read aloud a story about how people make and raise money. Then read aloud “Making Money.” Discuss the Comprehension questions. Categorize and Classify Reread and Explain Reread “Making Money.” At the end of each sentence that includes an oral vocabulary word, stop and repeat the explanation of the word.
