Discuss Guide children to see the relationship between each word and the category. Ask questions such as these: What are some ways that animals move? What words would you use to describe their movement? Read Aloud Explain that you will read aloud a story about two kids who fi nd out about tadpoles. Then read aloud “How Frogs Grow Up.” Discuss the Comprehension questions. Categorize and Classify Reread and Explain Reread “How Frogs Grow Up.” At the end of each sentence that includes an oral vocabulary word, stop and repeat the explanation of the word. Then reread the sentence. Use a Graphic Organizer Use the graphic organizer and the questions below to reinforce understanding of the relationship between each word and the category. Words About Ways of Doing or Talking anxiously adv. in a worried way After John fell, his mother looked anxiously at his knee. certainly adv. surely; without a doubt With everyone helping, we will certainly fi nish soon. fi rmly adv. in a determined way; like you mean what you say When you are training your puppy, you should speak to it fi rmly. fondly adv. lovingly I hugged my cousin fondly when I said goodbye. heavily adv. a lot He used green paint heavily to make a picture of a forest. rapidly adv. quickly She walked rapidly, because she was late.
