Words About Speaking announced v. told everyone Rosa announced that she had a new bike. conversation n. a talk Jen and Sam had a nice conversation at lunch. discussion n. a talk about one thing My parents and I had a discussion about what movie to see. pronounced v. said sounds in a certain way The doctor called my name and pronounced it correctly. remarked v. talked about We remarked on how lovely the garden looked. warned v. told about something dangerous She warned me about the broken glass on the ground. Discuss Guide children to see the relationship between each word and the category. Ask students: When have you had an interesting conversation? Read Aloud Explain that you will read aloud a story about two friends who talk about a tree they both take care of. Then read aloud “Tree Friends.” Discuss the Comprehension questions. Categorize and Classify Reread and Explain Reread “Tree Friends.” At the end of each sentence that includes an oral vocabulary word, stop and repeat the explanation of the word. Then reread the sentence. Use a Graphic Organizer Use the graphic organizer and the questions below to reinforce understanding of the relationship between each word and the category.
