Words About Danger brutal adj. cruel and violent The brutal wind destroyed a house. ferocious adj. wild and frightening A ferocious bear growled at us. frantic adj. very scared My mother was frantic when she lost her house keys. hostile adj. very unfriendly If you yell at someone, you are being hostile. invasion n. attack The strong walls protected the town from enemy invasion. jeopardy n. danger A child crossing a busy street is in jeopardy. perilous adj. dangerous He climbed the high, perilous cliff. Discuss Guide children to see the relationship between each word and the category. Ask questions such as these: What words would you use to talk about an invasion? Who would be in jeopardy? Read Aloud Explain that you will read aloud a story about a boy who helps fi nd two people lost in the woods. Then read aloud “The Rescuers.” Discuss the Comprehension questions.
