HomeMy WebLinkAboutRead Aloud Book Gr. K-Lesson 30It was the last day of school, and the class was having a party. Ms. Hanson
had tied balloons around the classroom. She passed out juice and pretzels to
the students.
Everyone was ready to celebrate the end of school. They were happy that
the school year was fi nished. The students had done many interesting things
and learned a lot. Now it was time for summer vacation.
Ms. Hanson thanked the children for being such good students. She said, “I
will miss you all. I know you will have a good year at school next year, too.”
Ms. Hanson took out some wrapped books. Each book was covered in silver
paper. Ms. Hanson gave each child a book to take home.
Then Chang stood up. “We liked being in your class, Ms. Hanson,” he said.
“We want to tell you about our favorite times at school this year.”
Ms. Hanson was surprised. She did not know that her students had planned
this sharing time.
One by one, the students stood up and told about their favorite times.
Chang’s favorite time was getting a pet frog in class. Jill’s favorite time was
learning about music. Tanya’s favorite time was checking out library books.
Marcos’s favorite time was taking a fi eld trip to the police station. All the
children shared.
When the children were done sharing, Ms. Hanson said, “I want to share my
favorite time. It was the fi rst day of school when you came into my classroom.
That was the day I got to meet all of you for the fi rst time.”
Ms. Hanson got her camera. “Come stand in a group. I want to take a
photograph. The picture will remind me of the special year we had,” said Ms.
Hanson.
Ms. Hanson snapped the picture. Now she would always remember this
special class.

It is the end of your kindergarten year. A great way to show your family how
much you have learned is to put on an end-of-the-year show. You and your
classmates will be the stars of the show! In this show, each student will take a
turn to show something special that he or she can do.
What can you do now that you couldn’t do when you fi rst came here? Get
some classmates together and make a list of these things. There are so many
choices. Maybe there is a new song you can sing or a certain number you can
count up to. You could also show a picture you drew or how you can write your
own name.
Each student should decide what he or she would like to do at the show.
Maybe you and a friend would like to show something together. Maybe the
whole class would like to sing a song. When everyone has decided what they will
do, your class can start to practice. You want the show to be perfect! Then you
need to tell your family about it. Your teacher may send home a letter with you.
The letter will have information about what time the show is and where it will be.
When it is time for the show, your family and friends will come to sit and
watch you. You should try to remember what you practiced. It’s OK to be
a little nervous. Each child will show something special that he or she has
learned in kindergarten. When the show is over, your family will be able to
judge how much you learned. They will be so proud, and they will clap to show
how proud they are. You should be proud too. You’re growing up!
