HomeMy WebLinkAboutDirector of Elementary - 2017 Update - DRAFTJune 2017 TITLE: Director of Elementary Education QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Idaho School Administrator certificate. Previous elementary administrative experience. Minimum of four years of successful, full-time certificated experience working with elementary students while under contract in a school setting. Thorough understanding of the components of effective instruction and instructional leadership. Understanding of curriculum development and assessment. Demonstrated leadership ability in working with stakeholders. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools. JOB GOALS: Support School District 91’s mission through supervision and coordination of the organization, administration, and evaluation of the elementary educational program. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and evaluates elementary administrators. Engages in high quality assistance practices to facilitate principals’ instructional leadership through: Differentiating supports for principals’ instructional leadership consistently over the entire academic year. Modeling ways of thinking and acting that exhibit the exercise of effective instructional leadership practice. Developing and using tools that help principals engage in instructional leadership practices. Serving as a broker between principals and external resources, by bridging/connecting principals to sources of assistance, and buffering them from negative external influences, both in the service of supporting principals’ instructional leadership. Consult with the Director of Curriculum and Professional Development and the Director of Student Achievement and School Improvement to develop and implement curriculum, assessment, and staff development efforts. Observes teachers in their classrooms and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation. Provides leadership to principals in the assignment, supervision, evaluation, probation, and dismissal of certified staff in elementary schools. Participates in the solution of personnel problems which cannot be resolved at the building level to the satisfaction of those concerned. Communicates the approved curriculum to the professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional materials. Works with principals and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level meetings to affect horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the district. Serves as liaison and actively participates with educational leaders in curriculum and instruction at state, regional, and national levels. Responsible for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and federal and state regulation in elementary schools. Supervises the elementary P.E. program and the substitute teacher program. Oversees the elementary music program under the direction of the Director of Secondary Education. Supervises the development of the elementary PE, music, and art schedules. Oversees the teacher mentor program. Actively recruits and hires qualified teacher candidates. Prepares periodic reports for presentation to district administrators, the Board of Trustees, and/or other community groups as appropriate. Attends the Board of Trustee meetings as directed. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The annual contract will be based on 244 days of service (twelve months). Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Administrator’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with board policy.
