HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Information OfficerNovember 2002 TITLE: Public Information Officer. QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent writing and communication skills. Intense belief in and support of public education. Previous experience in journalism and/or public relations. Knowledge of school systems, operations and finances. Ability to interface effectively with a variety of press and civic groups. Proficiency in the use of word processing and desktop publishing software. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. Bachelor’s degree desirable (preferably in education or journalism), but not mandatory. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To promote School District 91’s mission through internal and external communications. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates, designs, writes, edits, and produces the Annual Report. Coordinates, designs, writes, edits, and produces the monthly employee newsletter. Solicits and executes public recognition of the achievements of students, staff, volunteers, and the school district via external and internal communications. Produces booklets, pamphlets, brochures, and other publications as needed. Disseminates information to employees via e-mail, calendars, letters, and other printed or electronic modes. Maintains a positive working relationship with local media. Establishes policies and guidelines for media coverage of District 91 and provides training for both employees and media in regard to their use. Serves as a district spokesperson and alerts the media in the event of school closures. Serves as a member of the Safety Committee and Crisis Team. Serves on the Superintendent’s Cabinet and advises administrators and Board members regarding the public relations aspects of district policy. Creates support materials for bonds, levies, and special projects. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Maintains high standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the District and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be at a Grade 6. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with Board policy.
