NOTE: Idaho Falls School District 91 is implementing the New Technology Magnet High School as a way to improve student achievement through a research based program that focuses on providing
meaningful standards based instruction in a collaborative, technology rich environment. The New Technology Magnet High School will be a part of the New Technology High School network
- a nationally recognized reform initiative. The New Technology High School model focuses on the student use of technology as a means to gaining academic success. This means that
students enrolled in the New Technology Magnet High School will use the Internet and other software applications to solve authentic and academically-rich problems through a project-based
curriculum that is facilitated by their teachers. A one-to-one student to computer ratio will help support these project-based practices. In the New Technology environment, students
count on teachers to support them through strong relationships developed through a student centered approach to learning.
TITLE: Special Education Teacher – New Tech
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate endorsed for appropriate levels and subjects.
Deep understanding of multi-disciplinary project-based learning and experienced in engaging students in hands-on learning while maintaining academic rigor.
Collaborative, skilled in interdisciplinary planning, and able to work well with a wide range of constituents (colleagues, parents, students, board members, etc.)
Ability to teach diverse learners and knowledgeable of instructional strategies for serving students of different skill levels in the same classroom.
Organized, reflective, participatory and punctual.
Experienced in integrating technology into their teaching and can support student learning using technology.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: New Tech Director.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student.
To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.
To assist students with disabilities, which meet federal and state criteria for placement in special education, in achieving individualized and general education curriculum goals and
objectives as determined by the IEP.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists students with disabilities, which meet federal and state criteria for placement in special education by
Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of special education laws, procedures, current research and best pedagogical practice
Developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
Maintaining student compliance files in accordance with federal, state and local procedures
Developing instructional goals that adequately reflect identified individual student needs as determined by evaluation or assessment
Using assessment results to plan for individual and group instruction
Designing learning activities, which are suitable to students’ IEP goals
Persisting in seeking instructional approaches for students who have difficulty learning
Monitoring student progress toward achievement of instructional goals
Communicating with students and parents about student progress on a regular basis
Maintaining and submitting data for Medicaid billing as requested
Strives to engage students while maintaining rigor by
Developing engaging, creative, and appropriate assignments and resources
Employing a variety of instructional strategies and media which meets students’ needs and abilities
Engaging students in making, building, doing, and presenting/talking about their work
Sponsoring students’ field-based experiences and competitions
Develops appropriate relationships with students and colleagues by
Developing interdisciplinary curriculum across the core
Being open-minded and participative in all aspects of New Tech
Strives to teach to the diversity of the students in the classroom by
Personalizing instruction
Supporting struggling students and challenging strong students
Setting the expectation that all students participate in all classroom activities
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, self, equipment, materials and facilities in order to provide a safe learning environment.
Maintains and improves competence through participation in professional development.
Works well with parents by
Providing a thorough syllabus at the beginning of the year and maintaining an up-to-date website
Responding to parents’ questions and concerns
Encouraging parent participation
Providing meaningful, personalized comments
Acts as an advisor for a group of students by
Acting as the primary advocate for the student, both socially and academically
Conducting a home visit for all new advisees
Tracking credits for all advisees
Supports New Tech student recruitment, community outreach, and partnership creation.
Provides lesson plans and complete directions to allow the substitute to carry on the educational program of the teacher.
Attends all required meetings and serves on committees as requested.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will
be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the New Tech Director in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
