TITLE: Special Education Compliance Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Idaho Standard Teaching Certificate and Standard Exceptional Child Certificate.
Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with teaching experience in both special education and general education.
Completion, in an accredited college or university, of a master’s degree or an approved fifth year program as defined by the Idaho State Board of Education, and have demonstrated competencies
in the following areas.
Assessment of learning behaviors.
Individualization of instructional programs based on educational diagnosis.
Behavioral and/or classroom management techniques.
Program implementation and supervision.
Knowledge in use of current methods, materials and resources available and management and operation of media centers.
Ability in identifying and utilizing community or agency resources and support services.
Counseling skills and guidance of professional staff.
Minimum of three years’ teaching experience, at least two years of which must be in a special education classroom setting.
Valid Idaho driver’s license.
Must have own transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed by the district.
Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
To support and develop services which reflect the “best practices” in special education for children and adolescents with disabilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with Consulting Teachers and the Director of Student Services to interpret Federal and State rules and regulations and defines district level implementation of procedures and compliance.
Develops and provides training to teachers, parents and paraprofessionals on issues pertaining to students with disabilities.
Collaborates with community agencies to support the efforts for good mental health and academic achievement for students.
Assists with planning, organization and implementation of special education activities.
Assists with programming for students in their neighborhood schools.
Serves on the Assistive Technology Committee.
Compiles child count data as required by the district and the state.
Researches and provides information on disabilities to teachers.
Attends district, agency, and staff development meetings that are relevant to the job assignment.
Attends special education, consulting teacher, and itinerant staff department meetings as requested.
Serves on various district wide committees as requested.
Works in collaboration with related service providers, principals, parents, and paraprofessionals to increase appropriate student success and behavior in the classroom.
Provides direction and support for special education delivery models.
Supports and assists teachers and administrators in complying with rules and regulations as they pertain to special education.
Supports and assists special education staff and administrators in transition issues at appropriate times.
Attends IEP meetings as requested.
Assists building administrators with discipline procedures for students with disabilities.
Assists special education teachers in preparing appropriate programs and plans for specific students.
Participates in problem solving with principals and staff on issues involving students with disabilities.
Maintains and submits data for Medicaid billing as requested.
Seeks out opportunities for professional growth.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will
be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Services in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
