TITLE: Work Experience Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Idaho Exceptional Child Certificate and Vocational Certificate with appropriate endorsements.
Valid Idaho driver’s license.
Must have own transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed by the district.
Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Education.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement
Test.
To provide opportunities for students with disabilities and/or students at risk to explore career options and to develop job skills in a community based setting.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reviews vocational goals for high school students with disabilities enrolled in the Work-based Learning program.
Provides career exploration opportunities for students enrolled in the Work-based Learning program.
Develops community based job sites for students enrolled in the Work-based Learning program.
Provides routine supervision for students placed in community based job sites.
Consults with students, parents and staff regarding career/vocational planning and course selection.
Works with community and adult agencies in meeting vocational and transition goals.
Teaches classes in career exploration, job attainment skills, and employability skills.
Displays content knowledge and makes connection between content and other parts of the discipline.
Reflects understanding of current research and best pedagogical practice.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of special education laws and procedures.
Participates as a member of the IEP Team as appropriate.
Develops and implements Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives.
Monitors student progress toward achievement of instructional goals.
Communicates with educational staff about student progress on a regular basis.
Communicates with students, and parents about student progress on a regular basis.
Supervises paraprofessionals.
Seeks out opportunities for professional growth.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will
be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Special Education in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
