HomeMy WebLinkAboutElem PE SpecialistJanuary 2006 TITLE: Elementary Physical Education Specialist QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate with an elementary or physical education K-12 endorsement. Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To help students learn habits and skills that will contribute to their physical health in the future. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructs elementary physical education. Assists teachers in coordinating the physical education curriculum. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports (Presidential Physical Fitness Program). Maintains professional competence through inservice education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Cooperates with school administration in providing special performing groups for special occasions, PTO meetings, assemblies, and district athletic events. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Serves as a consultant to assigned schools for the purchase and repair of physical education equipment and supplies. Develops and supervises and intramural program where possible at assigned schools. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
