TITLE: Homebound Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate endorsed for appropriate levels and subjects.
Valid Idaho driver’s license.
Must have own transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed by the district.
Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Education.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement
Test.
To ensure that homebound children in the district identified as capable of benefiting from instruction be provided with an ongoing educational program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs routine visits to students at home – approximately two to three hours per week per student.
Creates daily lesson plans for each student, which fulfills school and class requirements within the limits of that student’s abilities.
Grades daily assignments when requested by the regular teachers
Maintains communication with regular teachers to update lesson plans and to report student progress.
Administers tests as needed.
Grades tests as requested by the regular teachers.
Develops supplemental resource material for the students as needed.
Assigns midterm, trimester, or semester grades when directed to do so by the regular teachers.
Confers with nurses and principals to determine whether referrals will be assigned to the homebound program.
Confers with the nurses to identify specific medical limitations of each student.
Consults with the school counselor in a secondary school or the teacher in an elementary school about the student’s past performance, referral history, and current class schedule.
Meets with the student in the home to outline the homebound study program.
Coordinates student’s return to regular classes with the school nurse, counselor, and teacher(s). Also coordinates with the attendance clerks in secondary schools.
Accepts elementary and secondary level referrals from Health Services Department Chair.
Maintains time and mileage records.
Checks out and returns instructional materials from regular teachers, school media centers, and district resource centers.
Maintains records of individual student progress.
Maintains file of current and past homebound students
Completes reports at the end of each quarter and trimester and a final annual report at the end of each school year.
Seeks out opportunities for professional growth.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will
be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Special Education in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
