TITLE: Interventionist/Reading Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated success as a teacher.
Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with others.
Strong organization skills.
Knowledge of District school improvement initiatives, including effective instruction, content standards, content area literacy, SIOP, RTI, PBS, differentiation, and assessment practices.
Experience in curriculum development, professional development and data interpretation.
Knowledge of assessment practices including universal screening, formative assessment and progress monitoring.
Has in-depth knowledge of reading processes, acquisitions, assessment and instruction.
Demonstrate ability to maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons.
Experience in working with small groups of children who are underperforming in reading and/or math.
Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate endorsed for appropriate levels and subjects.
Demonstrated effective use of instructional technology.
Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.
To assist the principal and classroom teachers to provide direct support and assistance in the classroom in the use of effective instructional strategies, use of data to improve student
achievement, and instruction aligned to state and district-identified standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Guides the learning process to increase student achievement.
Provides leadership and coordination in the regular program of reading instruction.
Form strong professional relationships with colleagues.
Observes reading instruction in the classroom and consults with teachers as requested.
Communicate effectively with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, students, and parents.
Support teacher learning and mentor staff in the implementation of proven teaching methods.
Work with teachers to help analyze and improve instructional practices.
Coordinates ongoing formative assessment.
Provide model teaching lessons or side by side coaching based on classroom observations.
Provide staff development (small or large group) in effective instructional strategies.
Use data to improve student achievement.
Develops and maintains records and reports as necessary.
Support data teams and collaborate regarding instructional decisions based on data.
Work collaboratively with teachers to use literacy techniques that support all content areas.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and maintains the integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER
Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code for Professional Educators, and the negotiated contract.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be
in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator as part of the teacher evaluation process in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master
agreement and board policy.
