Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Idaho State License as athletic trainer. NATA Certification Ability to work with students, staff, and the public. Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator. Must work under the supervision of a licensed physician Idaho Code: sec 54-3914 IDAPA 22:01.10 JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of Idaho Falls School District 91’s written, taught, tested, and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To provide prevention and care of athletic injuries including therapeutic rehabilitation to allow for the least loss of competitive time, while keeping the mental and physical welfare of the athlete as the top priority. The athletic trainer will also teach, train and prepare students for a life time of enjoyable and safe athletic activities which will include teaching the state approved Health Occupations/Sports Medicine class. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluates and supervises the treatment and rehabilitation for all minor athletic injuries and conditions. Refers athletic injuries to physicians for diagnosis and treatment. Develops and supervises appropriate rehabilitation programs for athletes under the direction of a physician. Determines if a player is able to continue participation in a game and/or practice if the player is injured, as directed by a physician. Reports injuries to coaches, parents, and athletic office and developing an annual report of athletic injuries. Is responsible for the safe operation, inventory, and requisition of all training room supplies and equipment. Submits requests for supplies to the athletic director. Additionally, submits an annual budget for all first aid and medical supply needs for the year. Provides basic instruction to athletic staff members in the prevention and care of injuries. Assists and advises the coaching staff regarding injury prevention and conditioning programs. Trains and supervises sports medicine students during practices and athletic events. Develops and implements a communication protocol for coaches, players, parents and athletic trainers. Provides coverage to all home varsity football, wrestling, girls’ basketball, and boys’ basketball games and practices for the school to which he/she is assigned. If there is a conflict between events, the athletic trainer will attend the event deemed most necessary to attend by the athletic trainer and administration. During regularly scheduled school breaks, the athletic trainer will be on call in the case of an emergency. Maintains Healthcare Provider Certification or equivalent as well as teaching license. Has regular and predictable attendance. Performs other duties as assigned. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of field and/or teaching experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Schools hosting tournaments and special events will be responsible for scheduling and paying an athletic trainer if one is needed. A trainer’s responsibilities lie with the treatment of athletic injuries; therefore, the trainer should not coach a school-related activity. Athletic trainers will not be accountable for duties that are assigned to the team managers. All certifications and licensures are the responsibility of the athletic trainer. The district will allocate from the activities fund up to $750 yearly for athletic trainer’s registration at NATABOC for recertification.
