TITLE: Energy Educator/Manager
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional experience in an educational environment or similar professional experience.
Ability to analyze and interpret technical data and communicate it to non-technical individuals.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, climb, bend, stoop, and reach. Must also be able to walk and stand for long periods.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Ability to exercise good judgment in implementation of policy.
Strong communication skills.
Physically capable of performing assigned tasks.
Valid Idaho driver’s license.
Ability to work with staff, students and the public and to maintain favorable public relations.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
JOB GOALS:
To develop and monitor the District’s energy management program to reduce energy consumption.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains a program to promote energy conservation through positive feedback to all levels of the District and involve all personnel and students in taking ownership for the success
of the program.
Advises, assists, and makes recommendations to the Director of Operations on alternate energy sources, consumption, and general energy conservation measures.
Maintains Energy Management Systems (EMS) and programmable thermostats. Works with vendors and contractors to assure proper operation. Performs scheduling and maintenance activities
related to EMS’ and thermostats.
Prepares energy requirement estimates and budget allotments for all district facilities and develops procedures for efficient utilization of energy sources.
Meets regularly with the Director of Operations to report the status of the District’s energy consumption.
Maintains all energy consumption records and data. Maintains records of federal energy conservation grants received by the district.
Provides regular reports to the principals and custodial staff as to the status of their buildings’ energy consumption.
Reports to the Board of Trustees on the status and success of the program as requested.
Performs regular “walk-through” audits of all the District’s facilities to insure operating efficiency, optimum educational environment, and compliance with the District’s energy policy.
Coordinates the usage of facilities and insures proper space utilization consistent with energy conservation.
Is responsible for the implementation of weekday, weekend, holiday, and summer shutdown checklists for every building in the district.
Implements night setback program for every building on weeknights, weekends, holidays, and summer break.
Insures that the District is on the proper utility rate schedule and is receiving the correct billing.
Insures District participation in any rebate program offered.
Assists with the design and maintenance of the programming for computerized energy management system to insure operating efficiency. Updates programs as necessary.
Works with the building and maintenance personnel on proper operation of the systems and equipment. Attends all scheduled in-services on the energy management program.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, 260 days per year. This position requires night, weekend, holiday, and summer work. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board
policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 16.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment
at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
VIII. EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Operations in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in an office (20%) and in the field (80%).
Irregular hours are required including nights, weekends, holidays, and summer break.
Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, and reach.
Must be able to walk and stand for long periods.
Working in confined spaces is sometimes required.
Must be able to push, pull, or lift at least 25 pounds.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of medium duty.
