TITLE: District Painter
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional experience in preparing surfaces and applying surface finishes.
Knowledge of paints, varnishes, stains, shellacs, etc. and their appropriate application.
Physically capable of performing assigned tasks.
Ability to estimate time and materials required for assigned tasks.
High School Diploma preferred.
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work with staff, students and the public.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Scrapes, sands and sizes surfaces preparatory to painting. Mixes, matches and applies paint, varnishes, shellacs, enamels, and other finishes. Cleans and cares for brushes, spray guns
and other equipment.
Obtains and maintains a lead-based paint abatement worker training certification.
Paints and refinishes a wide variety of items including furniture, equipment, walls, ceilings, and other interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and equipment.
Erects or rigs scaffolds; covers woodwork and furniture to protect it from paint and removes splattered paint after job is completed.
Checks condition of woodwork, noting need for carpentry repairs. Performs occasional patching.
Plans and implements a painting schedule.
Keeps an up-to-date inventory of equipment needed.
Completes work order forms, reports and other assigned paperwork.
Tapes and textures walls.
Supervises summer paint crew.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs minor repairs on buildings; installs blackboards; repairs doors and performs minor cabinet work.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week, 254 days per year. Monday through Friday is considered to be the normal workweek, however, this position may require an immediate
four-ten hour per day work week to enable the completion of painting projects while students are not in the buildings. Emergency conditions may also arise which will require attention
at any hour of the day or night.
Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 10.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment
at will” policy
cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Maintenance Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of heavy duty.
1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100%
Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds
**Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
