QUALIFICATIONS: Must have completed an occupational therapy assistant educational program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association, along with all fieldwork requirements. Certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure as a Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant in the state of Idaho. One to two years of prior successful work experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to transfer students weighing up to 200 pounds with appropriate assistance of equipment. Ability to work and communicate with staff, students, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student. To assist the assigned students, under the direction and supervision of the Occupational Therapist, in acquiring those functional performance skills needed to participate in and benefit from the educational environment, and to help the assigned students function independently. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides occupational therapy services to students with disabilities under the direction and supervision of a registered occupational therapist. Participates in evaluation and assessment using standardized measures, formal and informal tests, and checklists, as appropriate. Implements therapeutic procedures for which qualified, as designated by the Occupational Therapist. Contributes to progress reports and helps collect data for Individualized Education Plans. Maintains current records in accordance with school, state, and federal policy. Assists with keeping accurate records of the therapy budget, inventory, and equipment. Helps establish goals for students and develop individual and group therapy activities. Assists in the dissemination of established therapeutic programs to the educational staff. Consults with the Occupation Therapist concerning implementation and status of therapy goals (feeding programs, positioning, equipment, etc.) Constructs, modifies, and maintains adaptive equipment for positioning, ADL, vocational and classroom use. Assists in monitoring work and school environments for accessibility. Helps develop an awareness of individual student needs and assists the occupational therapist in monitoring these needs. Helps instruct the educational staff concerning the use of adaptive equipment, positioning programs, and integration of therapy goals into the classroom and academic activities to enhance function. Assures that proper positioning and handling techniques are carried out correctly across all environments. Strives to maintain and improve job skills through inservice training and other means. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms will be determined by the needs of the schools and budgetary constraints. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 14. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Services in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
