TITLE: Migrant Family Liaison.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. High school diploma and 32 college credits or ETS Para Assessment test with a passing score of 460 or higher.
Possess an understanding of the special needs of the migrant and LEP (Limited English Proficiency) populations.
Ability to maintain positive communications and work cooperatively with parents, students, school personnel, and program staff.
Bilingual in English and Spanish both verbal and written.
Knowledge of community resources for families.
Training and experience in clerical duties.
Good organizational ability.
Computer knowledge and experience with word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, etc.
Valid Idaho Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Student Achievement and School Improvement.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
To increase the district’s effectiveness in meeting the educational needs of Migrant and LEP students by performing a variety of home and school liaison activities, data entry, record
keeping tasks, testing of students, translations, interpreting, enrollment of Migrant and LEP students, and completion of Certificates of Eligibility for the State Department of Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works to become thoroughly knowledgeable about Federal Programs eligibility requirements for LEP and Migrant students.
Assists parents of Migrant and LEP students in completing and returning school enrollment forms, free lunch forms, and home language surveys (copies of home language surveys must be
sent to the Federal Programs office).
Transports newly identified Migrant and LEP families to register/enroll students in school. Introduces Migrant and LEP parent(s) to the building principal who will , with the help of
the Federal Programs Office, determine the placement of the Migrant or LEP child is special school programs, such as LEP Kindergarten, Bilingual Kindergarten, Newcomer Center, and Title
I.
Serves as a liaison when requested between Migrant and LEP families and the schools, continually striving to maintain positive communications and good relations.
Recruits Migrant and LEP families to participate and attend regularly scheduled Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings. Reports, reviews, and plans PAC meeting schedule and agendas
with the Federal Programs Supervisor and Administrative Assistant. This will include scheduling PAC meeting sites; preparing PAC meeting agendas; scheduling speakers and student performances;
distributing school district information and forms; etc.
Completes reports and other paperwork as assigned.
Attends in-service classes and other district or building meetings when requested.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as required.
Translates District/Federal Programs documents as requested.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the students and budgetary constraints. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade
5.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment
at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Achievement and School Improvement in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation
of classified personnel.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100%
Light 20 pounds 10 pounds < 1 pound
Medium 40 pounds 20 pounds 10 pounds
Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds
**Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
