TITLE: Occupational Therapist.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have completed an education program accredited by the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Certified by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
Current licensure as an occupational therapist in the state of Idaho.
At least two years previous work experience including pediatric experience is recommended.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Student Services.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement
Test.
To assist the assigned students in acquiring those functional performance skills needed to participate in and benefit from the educational environment, and to help the assigned students
function independently.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assesses and evaluates students with handicapping conditions such as physical disabilities, learning disabilities, motor delays, cognitive and perceptual deficits, sensory-motor problems,
and delayed self care abilities that impact performance in the educational setting.
Plans and develops educationally relevant goals which are incorporated into the students’ Individual Education Programs (or Section 504 accommodation as appropriate.)
Establishes and maintains a system of documentation which conforms to state requirements and is consistent with District policy.
Communicates results of evaluations and reports of Occupational Therapy services to the educational staff, parents, students, and when appropriate, other professionals and agencies concerned
with the students.
Attends school meetings where appropriate.
Implements therapeutic procedures and monitors program goals via direct student contact, supervision of licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, and consultation with other
professionals and paraprofessionals involved in the implementation of the therapeutic process.
Provides consultation to the education system regarding student needs, professional needs, and system needs in order for the system to achieve its goals and objectives.
Maintains and is accountable for the therapy budget, inventory and equipment.
Constructs (or makes recommendations for construction), modifies, and maintains adaptive equipment for positioning, Activities for Daily Living, vocational and classroom use.
Facilitates inservice education and professional development for therapy and educational staff as appropriate.
Provides reassessment of students focussing on areas of need at intervals required by the state and the school district.
Communicates the needs of the Occupational Therapy program and is responsible to the Supervisor of Student Services.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms will be determined by the needs of the schools and budgetary constraints. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment
at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Student Services in accordance with the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100%
Light 20 pounds 10 pounds < 1 pound
Medium 40 pounds 20 pounds 10 pounds
Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds
**Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
