TITLE: School Resource Officer
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Reserve Officer Level 1 certification through the City of Idaho Falls under the direction of the Chief of Police.
Ability to work with students, staff, and the public.
Basic computer skills.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
To help provide for and ensure the security and protection of students, staff, and property.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patrols building and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
Conducts patrol inspections of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or calls police for assistance when necessary.
Patrols school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles; to check cars for parking authorization; to determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as near fire
hydrants or in driveways; and to check exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
Makes written reports of security violations.
Attends staff meetings and other meetings as requested by the principal.
Provides security at sporting events and after school social activities as needed.
Notifies the building administrator and parents of students involved in criminal activities.
Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Keeps themselves and the school’s administration current on juvenile law.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the school and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be
in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 10 with on call officers being placed on the beginning step.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment
at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100%
Light 20 pounds 10 pounds < 1 pound
Medium 40 pounds 20 pounds 10 pounds
Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds
**Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
