TITLE: Secretary/Dispatcher - Transportation
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma.
Knowledge and experience in general secretarial procedures.
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to work with staff, students and the public.
Proficiency in the secretarial skills of keyboarding, filing, office procedures, operations of office equipment and machines.
Physically capable of performing assigned tasks.
Previous experience preferred, but not mandatory.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the District’s Transportation office so that the office’s maximum positive impact on the education of children can be achieved.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains payroll records for transportation personnel.
Classifies and organizes extra runs to enable the Transportation Coordinator to assign buses and drivers.
Charges extra runs to the appropriate group, then totals and sends billing information to administration.
Updates bus routes including bus stops, route mapping, adjusting student loads, and assists with placing special needs students on the most logical route.
Uses two-way radio to assist drivers; which may include emergency and non-emergency situations; and provides telephone support between drivers, schools and parents.
Responds to telephone inquiries regarding problems, route information, route changes, complaints, etc.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists Transportation Supervisor and Lead Drivers as needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, 206 days per year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary
Schedule as a Grade 6-8.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. This “employment
at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
