TITLE: Alternative High School Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Idaho Administrative Certificate endorsed for school principal or the ability to obtain the certificate.
Minimum of four years of full-time certificated experience working with students, Pre-K-12, while under contract in a school setting.
A minimum of three years of successful administrative experience.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Experience working in a low SES school.

Staff development and supervision of instruction.
School law and finance, including special education.
Curriculum development, integration of technology, delivery, and assessment.
Education of all populations, including special education.
Student behavior management/positive behavior supports/effective discipline.
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing graduation and go on rates.
To ensure the reflection and communication of a positive image and attitude toward decisions and functions of the district as they relate to the public, staff, parents, and students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administers the total educational program in the school.
Facilitates and leads professional learning communities within the school.
Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.
Coordinates the development of the master schedule to program classes that meet student needs.
Ensures that that school meets or exceeds the requirements for state accreditation.
Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
Oversees the college and career planning program to help students be college and career ready upon high school graduation.
Establishes a culture of trust, respect and responsibility.
Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring and training of the school staff including 3B Juvenile Detention Center and is responsible for the hiring and supervision of the secondary
summer school staff.
Participates in the assignment of professional and classified personnel in the school and conducts evaluations in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Plans, organizes and directs the implementation of all school activities including parent meetings each block.
Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development as appropriate.
Coordinates such support services as maintenance, security, food services, recreational programs, financial and accounting functions, media center activities, etc.
Establishes and conducts a schedule of visits to classrooms to ensure that an effective instructional program is being carried out to meet the needs of individual students.
Prepares and manages the school budget and building checkbook in accordance with guidelines provided by the Administration Office.
Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, etc. required for the effective administration of the school including the Neglected and Delinquent plan and the application
for alternative school and alternative summer school.
Participates in intake meetings for all students coming to Emerson and attend monthly probation meetings.
Serves as chair of the building Child Assistance team or delegates this responsibility for all students referred to special programs.
Serves on the IEP Team as District Representative, or delegates this responsibility, for all students enrolled in special education and is responsible for implementing all aspects of
IDEA.
Is responsible for the administration of district and state testing programs as directed by the Board and state regulations.
Establishes and maintains favorable relations with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and to solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to
interpret Board policies and administrative directives; and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
Coordinates the district safety program.
Assists in the development, revisions and evaluations of the curriculum by serving on curriculum committees or other assignments as requested by the Superintendent.
Is responsible for the safety of the students.
Assumes responsibility for the administration and maintenance of the school plant and facilities.
Seeks out opportunities for professional growth.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time position scheduled for 230 days per year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Administrators’
Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education in accordance with board policy.
