Must be able to use technology effectively to meet the needs of students. Candidate must be able to travel between buildings. Mileage will be reimbursed. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO: Building AdministratorJOB GOALS:To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested, and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, college and career advisors promote student success and respond to identified student needs by developing, managing, delivering and assessing a comprehensive college and career advising program that addresses academic, career, and post-secondary path development for all students as well as performs related work as required. This position will serve students in grades 6-12.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:PLANNING AND PREPARATION: Demonstrate knowledge of college and career advising techniques Establish goals for program appropriately Exhibit knowledge of State and Federal regulations and resources Design program using small groups, in-class activities, and parent/community informational meetings and presentations THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT: Create an environment of respect and rapport establishing a culture for productive communication Establish standards of conduct, and contribute to the culture for college and career readiness Manage routines and procedures DELIVERY OF SERVICE: Notify parents on what college and career advising is available through the school at least annually Assist students in forming academic, college and career plans based on student needs Assist students and families with strengthening academic achievement, increasing academic aspirations and raising college awareness Assist students and families in understanding and navigating the complexities of financial aid, including providing hands-on assistance with the FAFSA and scholarship applications, presentations on financial aid or literacy, using financial aid literacy curriculum, and the benefits and how-tos of college savings plans Use appropriate resources to meet needs Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness Provide assistance about career choices, career planning, internships and career interest inventories Organize and facilitate visits to college campus (physical and/or virtual) including official tour, presentations by admissions, financial aid, academic departments, athletics, student affairs, residence life, multicultural affairs, or other college departments Organize and facilitate classroom-level or large/ small group sessions that involve hands-on experience for each student. to include: secondary school success, college awareness, general elements of college readiness such as study skills, self-monitoring, goal-setting, time management, problem solving, etc. Provide parent and family activities that can include one-on-one or small group advising designed to meet the specific needs of the students engaged in the activity. Activities include providing individual assistance to families on their students’ college choices, college planning, financial aid planning, etc. Complete required reporting on the effectiveness of the program. Measures used for the assessment should include but not be limited to FAFSA completion rate, advanced opportunity credits earned, college application completion rates, college scholarship completion rates, student and parent participation rates, college entrance exam scores Provide support and guidance to parents or guardians of students with a wide range of abilities and learning styles Demonstrate an understanding, patience, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups and needs Work collaboratively with counselors to implement the Idaho Falls School District 91 College and Career Readiness Plan. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITES: Attend staff, professional, and inter-agency meetings as requested Keep abreast of new developments in the field of college and career advising Work cooperatively with district personnel to include principals, staff, etc. Participate and provide input in the development of college and career plans, to include academic, extra-curricular and co-curricular programs Follow the direction provided by the Director of Secondary Education particularly that direction which relates to the implementation of district processes to meet federal, state, and local rules and regulations Maintain confidentiality of all students Communicate effectively, positively and in a timely manner in oral and written form Follow the leadership of the building principal, especially in those building-related issues such as duty assignments, building policies, maintenance of time schedules, etc. Demonstrate cooperative and positive attitude in performing the elements of this job description both within the assigned building and throughout the district Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities that are legal, moral, and ethical as the Supervisor may assignESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - required with or without a reasonable accommodation:Effective Communication capabilities to discern verbal conversation Comprehend the meaning of words and respond effectivelyVisual acuity to comprehend written work, prepare, review, and organize documents and observe classroom and student activitiesManual dexterity to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment and to physically restrain a student to keep from harming self and/or othersPersonal mobility, flexibility, and balance which permits the employee to work in a school environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs occasionallyJob tasks require occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and graspingRegular and predictable attendanceOTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs all other duties as assigned.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, 209 days per year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Wages will be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 11 to 13. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Building Administratorin accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
