TITLE: Health Technician
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of a high school diploma.
Able to work independently in a confidential setting.
Good communication, organizational, and computer skills.
Ability to work with students, staff and the public.
Physically able to perform assigned activities.
Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator.
JOB GOALS:
To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student.
To support the delivery of nursing services to students and staff by performing activities as assigned by this job description under the supervision of an assigned School Nurse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts self in a professional and positive manner in person, on the phone, and in written communication.
Maintains current knowledge of students with special health needs/conditions.
Assists with medication administration upon completion of medication administration class approved by the Idaho State Board of Nursing.
Performs minor first aid for students. Notifies student’s parents in the event of a more serious injury. Notifies the assigned School Nurse.
Performs head lice management according to nursing department guidelines.
Performs vision screening and rechecks as assigned, and as requested by teacher.
Measures and records student height and weight.
Assists administrators to assure student immunization status complies with state law.
Records immunization information and information regarding children’s health from written documents accurately and confidentially in the education record.
Communicates any communicable disease outbreaks in the school population to the School Nurse.
Communicates regularly with assigned School Nurse regarding students with specific health needs or recurrent health symptoms.
Communicates regularly with assigned School Nurse regarding Special Education needs for health information on Individual Education Plan and Multi Disciplinary Team concerns.
Works independently, demonstrating decision-making skills. Contacts the assigned School Nurse as necessary.
Provides basic education for students and parents on simple health issues; i.e. hygiene, signs and symptoms of infection. Provides nursing department handouts.
Seeks out opportunities for professional growth.
Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
Has regular and predictable attendance.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will
be in accordance with the Classified Salary Schedule as a Grade 4.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment
at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on the evaluation of classified personnel.
This position has been given an overall physical classification of light duty.
1 – 33% 34 – 66% 67-100%
Light 20 pounds 10 pounds < 1 pound
Medium 40 pounds 20 pounds 10 pounds
Heavy >50 pounds** 40 pounds 20 pounds
**Lifts over 50 pounds with proper body mechanics and 2 or more workers.
