His older sister Serena had driven him to the mall that evening. They had gone to different stores to look for presents. After finding a beautiful necklace for his mother, Alonzo walked back to the fountain to meet his sister. He waited for fifteen minutes before Serena got there. They showed each other their presents and started to leave. Just then, Alonzo saw some friends from school gathered around the entrance to a department store. He told Serena that he wanted to talk to his friends, and he would catch up to her. She agreed but insisted that he hurry because they were running late. After a few minutes, he decided he should find his sister, so he waved goodbye and ran through the mall to the parking lot. When Alonzo walked outside, he noticed that the sun was setting. He couldn’t find his sister’s car anywhere and it made him wonder if she had left him at the mall. This wasn’t something that she would normally do, but she had said that she was in a hurry. Alonzo felt comfortable taking the bus during the day, but he didn’t like the idea of walking home from the bus stop in the dark. He started to worry and considered going inside and calling someone to pick him up. Suddenly, a car pulled up behind Alonzo and blasted its horn. When he turned around, he saw Serena behind the wheel. Alonzo had never been more relieved to see his sister. She told him that she had been driving around the parking lot looking for him for nearly fifteen minutes. Alonzo jumped in the car and they drove home and made it just in time for dinner.
