MAGNITUDE: Able to tell which set has more without counting. COUNTING: Reciting of counting sequence. (Similar to singing the ABC song.) ONE TO ONE CORRESPONDENCE: Count one number for each object. CARDINALITY: When counting objects the last number in the counting sequence describes the quantity of the set. HIERARCHICAL INCLUSION: Numbers are nested inside larger numbers PART/WHOLE RELATIONSHIPS: A number can be made of different parts. (7=1+6, 7=2+5...) COMPENSATION: “If 5 + 1 = 6, then 4 + 2 = 6 because 4 is one less than 5, and 2 is one more than 1. One was removed from the 5 and given to the 2 in order to get the same amount.” UNITIZING: Grouping things to make a larger unit. Example: 10 ones equals 1 ten.
