HomeMy WebLinkAboutDirector of Business June 2008 TITLE: Director of Business QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Management. Minimum of five years of public accounting or business management experience. Broad experience in business and public school administration. Ability to work with staff, students, and the public. CPA or MBA preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and applicable. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools. IV. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. To administer the business affairs of the district in such a way as to provide the best possible educational services with the financial resources available. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates activities and services of the business department with other administrators and supervisory personnel to ensure continuity and uniform application of approved business procedures. Ensures the reflection and communication of a positive image and attitude within the division of business affairs toward decisions and functions of the district as they relate to contacts with the public, staff and students. Ensures that proper purchasing procedures are implemented, including preparation of all bids and specifications for supplies, equipment and property to be purchased by the district. Is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive and complete accounting system to cover all business record keeping functions of the district. Develops and maintains an adequate inventory control system for all assets that becomes the property of Idaho Falls School District 91. Makes status reports as requested to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees concerning the management and distribution of the educational resources available to the district. Attends all meetings of the Board of Trustees unless excused by the Superintendent. Provides leadership and gives assistance to all divisions and schools in the preparation of the annual budget. Oversees purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions of the Business Office. Ensures that the child nutrition program is organized and operated on a self-sustaining basis. Provides for adequate insurance coverage to protect the district from losses due to fire, theft, vandalism, and public liability. Interacts with legislators on educational funding issues. Coordinates and oversees the annual fiscal audit with independent audit firm. Provides inservice for appropriate personnel within the schools of the District relating to established business policies and procedures. Acts as a liaison to collective bargaining process with local teachers’ association. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, 250 days per year. Benefits will be in accordance with approved Board policy. Salary will be in accordance with placement on the Administrator’s Salary Schedule. This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time, or for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The “employment at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and expressly approved by the Board of Trustees of District 91. VII. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with provisions of district policy.
