HomeMy WebLinkAboutMusic CoordinatorDecember 2002 TITLE: Music Coordinator QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate with a music endorsement. Extensive experience in curriculum development and supervision. Minimum of five years successful teaching experience and some practical experience at both the elementary and secondary levels. Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Instructional Services. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To provide each student enrolled in the district with varied opportunities to learn about and enjoy music experiences as a performer or as a listener. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Is responsible for the development and implementation of music education for students in Grades K through 12. Serves as a resource specialist, supporting and coordinating the efforts of the music specialists in the implementation of music curriculum that will provide a broad spectrum of opportunities for pleasurable experience with music for each child. Assists administrators with their role in music education, including the development of basic philosophy, objectives, and curriculum and interpretation of the philosophy and objectives of music education on the district level. Provides competent leadership for inservice training of classroom teachers. Is responsible for coordinating the music program with other programs of the overall curriculum and integrating the music program into the total education process. Produces and/or coordinates the elementary arts activities, Missoula Children’s Theater, district-wide musical, Fifth Grade Patriotic Program, etc. Coordinates the music program of the schools with community activities. Directs as district-wide communications program, which will keep the community informed of activities of the music program in the schools. Assists in the selection of a well-trained, cooperative, and vibrant music staff. Is responsible for the appraisal and evaluation of the needs of the music program and assumes responsibility for planning the budget for needed equipment and materials for the total music program. Is responsible for the maintenance of all district-owned wind, percussion, and string instruments. Maintains the district-owned central music library (vocal, strings, jazz, and symphonic band music). Secures for each music specialist adequate equipment, music supplies, advice, and guidance to make possible the greatest utilization of the capabilities and talents of the individual music specialist. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Administrator’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Instructional Services in accordance with board policy.
