HomeMy WebLinkAboutProfessional-Tech Ed Coordinator 3-20-07 210March 2007 TITLE: Professional-Technical Education Coordinator QUALIFICATIONS: Qualify for or hold an Occupational Specialist Certificate or hold a professional-technical endorsement on the secondary teaching credential. Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in a professional-technical education program. Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Have completed at least fifteen semester credits of administrative course work including the following: financial aspects of professional-technical education; administration of personnel; and legal aspects of professional-technical education. Additional course work can be selected from any of the following areas: administration and supervision of occupational programs; instructional supervision; administration internship; curriculum development curriculum evaluation; research in curriculum; school community relations; communication; teaching the adult learner; coordination of work-based learning programs; and/or measurement and evaluation. Valid Idaho Professional-Technical Administrator’s Certificate. Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To develop and coordinate professional-technical education programs that will offer students the opportunity for occupational exploration and will provide students with technical skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for pursuing post-secondary training or for successful performance in a globally competitive workplace. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, coordinates, and facilitates professional-technical offerings with the cooperative service agency (i.e. new programs, jointly sponsored programs, course descriptions, and scheduling). Supports Idaho State Board of Education and Division of Professional-Technical Education goals. Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent rules and regulations affecting professional-technical education. Serves as the professional-technical liaison for The Division with the district(s) in the cooperative service agency; advises The Division of issues and concerns from the cooperative service agency that directly and indirectly affect professional-technical education. Participates, as appropriate, on district management/planning teams. Promotes the integration of academic and professional-technical education, and promotes articulation activities at all levels (i.e. junior high to senior high; school work; and senior high to postsecondary). Coordinates with the Tech Prep Coordinator in the region and other regions as necessary. Promotes and provides regular public information on professional-technical education programs to students, parents, administrators, and community patrons. Promotes working relationships with the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in the area. Coordinates with alternative high schools in terms of professional-technical offerings, as appropriate. Promotes and encourages professional-technical student organizations in the professional-technical program areas. Maintains close working relationships with community and state agencies and area businesses, industries, and labor organizations to provide training consistent with needs. Provides leadership in establishing and maintaining advisory committees for professional-technical programs and keeps file copies of the meeting minutes. Coordinates current inventory records for all professional-technical programs in the cooperative, including inventory professional-technical equipment. Works cooperatively with postsecondary representatives to coordinate secondary professional-technical efforts. Attends in-service meetings sponsored by The Division of Professional-Technical Education. Provides performance accountability to The Division and to The Cooperative (i.e. annual plan, annual report, and Professional-Technical High School attendance and program reports). Assumes responsibility for the collection, review, and submission of all forms and reports relative to professional technical education to state agencies. Provides current contract salary figure to The Division when formally established. Helps identify and plan in-service activities to meet the professional development needs of professional-technical instructors. Is responsible for writing and coordinating the Carl D Perkins Career and Technical Education Plan and Grant Applications for Bonneville Joint School District 93 and the consortium of School Districts 91, 59, and 252 to ensure professional-technical goals are addressed. Works to identify and define local job opportunities and the role of the schools in meeting these opportunities. Continuously appraises and evaluates the total professional-technical program to achieve the established goals of providing the opportunity for students to prepare for post secondary education. Makes recommendations for long-term adjustments, changes, additions, and deletions in the professional-technical education program to meet changing job trends and needs. Advises and assists in obtaining state and federal funds for professional-technical education programs. Serves as the administrator for the Eastern Idaho Professional-Technical High School and supervises teachers who are not located in a secondary school such as EITC or the City Multi-purpose Building. Assists with all work-experience programs in the schools. Prepares and administers the professional-technical budgets. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. Organizes the Region VI Career Fair and annual Robo Challenge to include administering the funds to purchase robotic equipment, materials, and supplies. Has regular and predictable attendance. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The annual contract will be based on 210 days of service plus an additional 20 days for Professional Technical and an additional 20 days of Innovative School Concepts. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Administrator’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with board policy.
