HomeMy WebLinkAboutEarly Childhood Spec Ed SpecJanuary 2006 TITLE: Early Childhood Special Education Specialist QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Idaho Exceptional Child Certificate endorsed for Early Childhood Special Education or Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education Blended Certificate. Teaching and/or supervisory experience in Early Childhood Special Education. Valid Idaho driver’s license. Must have own transportation. Mileage will be reimbursed by the district. Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Special Education. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement as tested with the Idaho Standards Achievement Test. To coordinate the Early Childhood Special Education Program, including referral and placement, assessment and evaluation, curriculum and interagency coordination. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Displays content knowledge and makes connection between content and other parts of the discipline. Reflects understanding of current research and best pedagogical practice. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of special education laws and procedures. Displays thorough understanding of typical developmental characteristics of age group as well as exceptions to general patterns. Displays solid understanding of the different approaches to learning that different students display. Schedules and coordinates developmental evaluations in accordance with federal, state and local procedures. Uses assessment results for referral and placement in Early Childhood Special Education in accordance with federal, state, and local procedures. Coordinates transition from Infant/Toddler Program to district Early Childhood Special Education program. Displays knowledge of resources and knows how to gain access to enhance Early Childhood Special Education program. Coordinates public relation efforts for Early Childhood Special Education. Interacts with families in a polite, caring and respectful manner. Conveys genuine enthusiasm for young children and early intervention. Supervises paraprofessionals and volunteers. Demonstrates clear and accurate oral and written communication. Persists in seeking instructional approaches for young students who have difficulty learning. Communicates with parents about Early Childhood Special Education. Maintains and submits data for Medicaid billing as requested. Seeks out opportunities for professional growth. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Services in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
