HomeMy WebLinkAboutLiteracy special assignment position job descriptionJune 2014 TITLE: Teacher on Special Assignment: English Language Arts (ELA) Curriculum Projects QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Idaho Teaching Certificate. Deep understanding of core tenets of effective literacy instruction. Understanding of Common Core ELA Standards, Understanding by Design, and curriculum mapping, including the processes involved in creating vertical and horizontal alignment reflecting ELA learning progressions. At least 4 years teaching or coaching experience in elementary education. Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Professional Development. JOB GOALS: To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. Mapping & aligning literacy standards and curriculum: Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of curriculum to Common Core standards and assessments to create a comprehensive and rich literacy education for all District 91 students.  Building educators' capacity in District 91’s literacy instruction: Develop training and provide support to build teachers’ content knowledge and instructional practices in elementary literacy education.   PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates the ELA design process and construction of curriculum documents. Assists principals and teachers in implementing the district’s ELA curriculum. Coordinates and assists in the selection of curricular resources. Assists in the design and facilitation of trainings for staff on literacy instruction and curriculum implementation. Recommends ways in which the curriculum can be adjusted to meet the special learning needs of exceptional children. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The annual contract will be based on 187 days of service with additional summer work to be paid separately. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Curriculum and Professional Development in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
