HomeMy WebLinkAboutDean of StudentsMay 2015 TITLE: Dean of Students QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university Valid Idaho Certificate. Minimum of four years of full-time certificated experience working with students, Pre-K-12, while under contract in a school setting Show competency in these areas: Leadership, ethics, and management of change All forms of communication, including technology, advocacy, and mediation Customer involvement and public relations Staff development and supervision of instruction Curriculum development, integration of technology, delivery, and assessment Education of all populations, including special education Student behavior management/positive behavior supports/effective discipline Ability to work with students, staff, parents, and the public. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Compass Academy Director. JOB GOALS: To ensure the reflection and communication of a positive image and attitude toward decisions and functions of the district as they relate to the public, staff, parents, and students. To support the delivery of School District 91’s written, taught, tested and reported curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in the general administration of the school and serves as the acting principal/counselor when the principal/counselor is absent and is so assigned. Serves as a member of the Compass Academy leadership team, including the Director and Counselor. Shares the responsibility with the leadership team in building a culture of trust, respect, and responsibility. Participates in the supervision of student activities. Assists in the administration of state, AP and other testing Participates in community relations including, but not limited to, internships, partners, and panelists. Assists in the creation and implementation of 504, behavioral and attendance plans to lead students to success. Participates in attending and supervising school functions and activities as directed. Shares the responsibility to improve school climate through support of all curricular and non-curricular activities and by maintaining a positive attitude toward school and district policies. Develops and implements methods to help students reach their potential and to maintain high morale among staff and students. Acts as an advocate for the special education program and the exceptional students. Facilitates communications and interactions between the special education department and the remainder of the faculty. Assists with supervisory duties related to the Gifted Talented and English Language Learner programs. Serves as an advocate for all students. Assists in the preparation of special programs for the exceptional students such as released time and credit, paraprofessional positions, etc. Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all other duties as assigned. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full-time position scheduled for 206 days. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Compass Academy Director in accordance with board policy.
