HomeMy WebLinkAboutmath coach 2016February 2016 TITLE: Math Coach QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated success as a K-8 teacher of math Has in-depth knowledge of math, assessment, and instruction Has completed extensive graduate level math education and related courses Has expertise in working with teachers to improve their practices Is an excellent presenter and group leader Has experience or preparation to model, observe, and provide feedback about instruction for classroom teachers Has strong communication skills and the ability to coach/mentor others Has experience with data interpretation to improve student achievement Holds a valid Idaho Teaching Certificate endorsed for appropriate levels and subjects Meets highly qualified teacher requirements Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Professional Development JOB GOALS: The Math Coach will lead and support the district’s math instructional program and practices, use data to evaluate program effectiveness, and provide job-embedded support and ongoing professional learning for teachers and principals to accelerate student learning in mathematics. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Structures professional activities that are research-based, ongoing, coordinated, and responsive to student needs revealed by data (e.g., workshops, book studies, classroom coaching) Models research-based instructional practices and helps teachers implement these practices Identifies teachers’ strengths and areas for improvement based on student performance data and classroom observations Provides teachers with feedback and job-embedded coaching that impacts student learning Helps teachers select materials and instructional strategies that fit students’ needs and learning style Organizes professional materials to enhance a system of ongoing learning Organizes and makes instructional materials accessible to teachers Ensures that research-based math instructional strategies learned in workshops are used effectively in classrooms Assists teachers in overcoming problems they encounter in their classrooms Works closely with new teachers and administrators, helping them to understand the district’s math instructional program and practices Participates in professional development on coaching strategies as well as math instruction Uses data to monitor and evaluate program implementation Works with teachers to help analyze data and improve instructional practices Cultivates and models a respectful working and learning environment Maintains high standards of ethical behavior and maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons Has regular and predictable attendance This organization believes that every individual makes a significant contribution to our success. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs all other duties as assigned consistent with the responsibilities of a teacher, the Idaho Code of Ethics, and the negotiated contract. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The exact terms of this position will be determined by the needs of the district and budgetary constraints. Benefits will be in accordance with approved board policy. Salary will be in accordance with the placement on the Teacher’s Salary Schedule commensurate with years of experience and education. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Curriculum and Professional Development as part of the teacher evaluation process in accordance with provisions of the negotiated master agreement and board policy.
